Slovenian Female Sportspersons

Merlene Ottey is a Jamaican-Slovenian retired track and field sprinter. She represented Jamaica in international events for 24 years before representing Slovenia for 10 years. In 1993, she clocked 21.87 seconds to set the world indoor record for 200 metres; she has been holding that record ever since. Merlene Ottey is also known for winning several medals at Olympic Games. 

Tina Maze is a Slovenian retired alpine ski racer best known for winning two gold medals at the 2014 Olympics. Maze also won two silver medals at the 2010 Olympic Games and is considered the most successful Slovenian ski racer. Maze also won four gold medals at the World Championships and was named Slovenian Sportswoman of the Year six times.

Anna Muzychuk is a Ukrainian chess player who became only the fourth woman in the history of chess to achieve a FIDE rating of 2600 or more. Muzychuk, who attained the Grandmaster title in 2012, is a three-time fast chess world champion. 

Polona Hercog is a Slovenian tennis player who has won three singles titles on the WTA Tour so far. Hercog has also achieved success on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour, winning 18 singles titles. Polona Hercog came into prominence in 2008 when she won the Wimbledon and the French Open junior titles in the doubles competition alongside Jessica Moore.

Tamara Zidansek is a Slovenian tennis player who has won numerous singles titles on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour. Her best Grand Slam result, so far, came at the 2021 Roland-Garros where she qualified for the semifinals, eventually losing to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Tamara Zidansek has also won two WTA 125 singles titles and one WTA Tour singles title.

Urška Žigart is a Slovenian racing cyclist who won the Slovenian National Time Trial Championships in 2020. Urška Žigart, who currently rides for Team BikeExchange–Jayco, made headlines in 2019 and early 2020s for dating Tadej Pogačar, who has won two consecutive editions of the Tour de France so far (2020 and 2021).

Kaja Juvan is a Slovenian tennis player who has won seven ITF singles titles so far. Kaja Juvan turned professional when she was barely 16 and won her first WTA Tour doubles title at the age of 20. She also competes in major tournaments like Grand Slams and the Billie Jean King Cup.

Ana Gros is a Slovenian professional handball player who has been an important player for the Slovenian national team since 2007. Over the years, Ana Gros has won many prestigious tournaments like the Slovenian Championship title, Slovenian Cup, and French Championship title. 

Katarina Srebotnik is a Slovenian tennis player who has been inactive since 2018. Best known for her achievements as a doubles player, Srebotnik won the 2011 Wimbledon alongside Květa Peschke. Katarina Srebotnik has also won five Grand Slams, including three French Open titles, in mixed doubles.       

Ilka Štuhec is a Slovenian alpine ski racer best known for winning the gold medal in the women's downhill competition at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships. Ilka Štuhec has also represented her country at other important tournaments like Olympic Games.

Teja Oblak is a Slovenian professional basketball player who plays for the Slovenia women's national basketball team. Oblak represented her national side at the EuroBasket Women 2017. She currently plays for ZVVZ USK Praha.

Mima Jaušovec is a Slovenian former tennis player best known for winning the French Open in 1977. The following year, she went on to win at the Roland-Garros in the women's doubles event. Mima Jaušovec is also known for winning gold medals in the singles and doubles events at the 1979 Mediterranean Games in Split, Yugoslavia.

Brigita Brezovac is a Slovenian retired professional bodybuilder best known for placing third in the 2011 Ms. Olympia competition. Over the course of her career, Brezovac competed in several Ms. Olympia and Ms. International events. In 2013, Brigita Brezovac was ranked the fifth best female bodybuilder by IFBB.

Anamarija Lampič is a Slovenian competitive cross-country skier who made her Olympic debut in 2018. After winning a silver medal at the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld, Lampič went on to win two bronze medals at the 2021 World Championships in Oberstdorf. In May 2022, Anamarija Lampič announced that she is focusing on becoming a biathlete.

Petra Majdič is a Slovenian retired cross-country skier best known for winning the bronze medal in the women's sprint cross-country skiing event at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. She has also won a silver and bronze at the 2007 and 2011 World Championships, respectively. Petra Majdič is the fourth-most successful FIS Cross-Country World Cup participant of all time.

Nika Kriznar is a Slovenian ski jumper best known for winning a gold and bronze medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. She also won a silver and bronze medal at the 2021 World Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany. 

Mateja Svet is a Slovenian former alpine skier best known for winning a silver medal at the 1988 Winter Olympics where she represented Yugoslavia. She also represented Yugoslavia at World Championships, winning a gold medal at the 1989 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in the USA.

Toja Ellison is a Slovenian compound archer who won a gold medal at the 2019 European Games in Minsk, Belarus. Ellison also has a couple of World Cup silver medals under her belt. Toja Ellison first came into prominence in 2017 when she won a silver medal at the World Games in Wrocław, Poland. 

Born to a Bulgarian mother and a Nigerian father in Greece, handball player Elizabeth Omoregie initially represented the Bulgarian national team but later switched to the Slovenian national team. She is a 2-time Romanian Cup winner and a 4-time Slovenian Cup winner and now plays for CSM București.

Barbara Lazović is a Slovenian professional handball player best known for winning the silver medal at the 2017 and 2018 EHF Champions League. An important player for the Slovenia women's national handball team since 2008, Barbara Lazović is also part of the current Bucharest-based team, CSM București.

Woman Grandmaster and International Master Laura Unuk has not just been a Slovenian women's champion but has also won national-level chess championships in various age groups. She has also represented Slovenia in the Women's Chess Olympiad. Apart from chess, she has been a student of biochemistry.

Meta Hrovat is a Slovenian alpine ski racer who had an impressive junior career. She won gold medals at the 2016, 2018, and 2019 World Junior Ski Championships, apart from winning silver medals at the 2017 and 2018 World Junior Ski Championships. Meta Hrovat also represented Slovenia at the 2016 Youth Olympic Games where she won a bronze medal.

Ema Klinec is a Slovenian ski jumper who won the gold medal in the women's individual normal hill competition at the 2021 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, becoming the first Slovenian female ski jumper to do so. In the same World Championships, Ema Klinec also won the silver medal in the team normal hill competition.

Ana Drev is a Slovenian retired alpine ski racer who specialized in the giant slalom. Drev competed for her country in important tournaments like the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and Winter Olympic Games. Ana Drev was ranked amongst the greatest giant slalom skiers from Slovenia before her retirement in 2020 due to health problems.

Nika Fleiss is a Croatian retired alpine skier best known for winning a silver medal at the 2004 Junior World Ski Championships in Maribor, Slovenia. Fleiss also represented her country in the 2002, 2006, and 2010 Olympics. Nika Fleiss announced her retirement after the 2009-10 season.

Tilka Paljk is a Slovenian-born Zambian swimmer who earned a silver medal at the 2018 African Championships in Algiers and a bronze medal at the 2019 African Games in Casablanca. In 2018 and 2019, Tilka Paljk was named Zambia Sportswoman of the Year. In 2021, she was mentioned in Forbes magazine's Forbes Africa 30 under 30 list.

Špela Rogelj is a Slovenian former ski jumper best known for winning a silver medal at the 2021 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany. Rogelj started her career by competing in the FIS Ski Jumping Continental Cup before proceeding to represent her country at World Cup level. Špela Rogelj announced her retirement in 2022.

Špela Pretnar is a Slovenian retired alpine skier who finished her career with six wins and 13 podiums altogether in Alpine Skiing World Cup races. In 2000, Pretnar was adjudged Slovenian Sportswoman of the Year. Špela Pretnar has represented Slovenia in important tournaments like Winter Olympic Games, FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, and FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.

Maja Vtič is a Slovenian professional ski jumper who achieved popularity when she won the national ski jumping competition in 2011. She has also competed for Slovenia in prestigious tournaments like the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and FIS Ski Jumping World Cups, placing fifth at the 2011 World Championship.

Marusa Ferk is a Slovenian professional alpine skier who has represented her country in important tournaments like the Winter Olympic Games, FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, and FIS Alpine Ski World Cups. In 2009, Marusa Ferk came third in slalom in the 2009 World Cup in Garmisch Partenkirchen, which remains her best World Cup result till date.
