Theodore Martin McGinley, professionally known as Ted McGinley, is an American actor. He starred in the ABC drama ‘Hope & Faith’ and in the Fox sitcom ‘Married... with Children’. On the big screen, he is known for playing villain Stan Gable in the 1984 comedy ‘Revenge of the Nerds’. As a young boy, he was deeply interested in sports. At high school, he focused on swimming and athletics, and was also an avid player of water polo. He later attended the University of Southern California on a water polo scholarship. It was only during his university days that he became interested in acting. After majoring in real estate and urban planning, McGinley dropped out of the university and moved to New York to pursue acting. He began his acting career in the early 1980s and has appeared in a number of prominent TV shows and films since then. A father of two behind the screen, McGinley has been married to actress Gigi Rice since 1991.

Career
Ted McGinley started modeling in college. In 1980, he was cast as Roger Phillips in the sitcom ‘Happy Days’. Two years later, he landed a film role as Dr. Bucky DeVol in the comedy ‘Young Doctors in Love’. From 1983 to 1987, he starred as Photographer Ashley Covington Evans in the series ‘The Love Boat’. During this time, the talented actor also starred as Stan Gable in the movie ‘Revenge of the Nerds’, a story of a group of nerds at a college trying to end the ongoing harassment by their fraternity. He next joined the cast of the soap opera ‘Dynasty’ in 1986.
In 1989, McGinley began playing Jefferson D'Arcy on Fox’s ‘Married... with Children,’ a show that followed the lives of a women's shoe salesman, his lazy wife, their attractive, famous and dumb daughter, and their smart, unpopular and horny son. This was followed by his roles in the TV films ‘Wild Justice’ and ‘Linda’.
During 1995 and 1996, McGinley featured in a few episodes of ‘The John Larroquette Show’. After the show ended, he had appearances in the fictional sports news program ‘Sports Night’. In 2000, he was cast as Mark Gottfried in the political drama ‘The West Wing’. Three years later, he joined the cast of ‘Hope & Faith’ as Dr. Charley Shanowski, a role the actor played till 2006.
From 2015 to 2017, McGinley lent his voice to Denny Clay’s character in the animated robot series ‘Transformers: Robots in Disguise’. Following a lead role in the series ‘The Baxters’, he began playing a recurring role in the comedy web TV series ‘No Good Nick’. The series that premiered in April 2019 centers on a teen girl who enters a family with the intention of plotting revenge for unknowingly ruining her life. She eventually ends up developing compassion for them and gets stuck whether or not to go with her initial plan.

Ted McGinley was born on May 30, 1958, in Newport Beach, California, USA to Emily and Bob McGinley. He studied at Newport Harbor High School and later went to the University of Southern California, from where he majored in real estate and urban planning. He was an athletic youngster and participated in various sports.
In 1991, McGinley married actress Gigi Rice. The couple resides in Los Angeles with their sons, Beau and Quinn.
