Rydel Lynch Biography

Rydel Mary Lynch was born on August 9, 1993, in Littleton, Colorado, to Stormie and Mark Lynch. She is the second child of her parents and the only girl among five siblings.

She and her siblings are all musically gifted and were part of their family band, R5. Interestingly, their parents cannot play any musical instrument, even though they always played music from Bruce Springsteen, INXS, and Michael Jackson, which the children grew up listening to.

She and her brothers used to put up shows in their house's basement for their family. They would perform NSYNC songs complete with dance moves and would charge everyone $1 as entrance money.

Following in the footsteps of her older brother Riker, Rydel Lynch started singing and dancing at an early age and also learned to play the keyboard, double shaker, and tambourine. In her formative years, she was influenced by rock bands All Time Low, Neon Trees, and The Script.

Her older brother Riker, at the age of sixteen, decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. In 2008, the whole family relocated to California, which later paved the way for the younger siblings to be involved in the entertainment industry.

After moving to Los Angeles, the Lynch siblings started training at a dance studio called The Rage. There they met their future band-mate and drummer Ellington Ratliff, about a year before they formed the band together.

In 2008, Rydel Lynch started her professional career as an actor and appeared in the musical film Sunday School Musical as a Crossroads Choir Member. In the film, she can be seen dancing along with her older brother, Riker Lynch.

During this time, she also appeared in a number of commercials. She, with her younger brother Ross, played a short role in an ad for Microsoft Kinect for Xbox 360. She also appeared in a Sears commercial featuring Vanessa Hudgens.

In 2010, she appeared in the musical TV movie School Gyrls as a cheerleader. Her brother Riker made a cameo appearance as himself in the movie.

She appeared in the short film A Day as Holly’s Kids in 2011. She played Holly's Actual Kid 2 in the film.

In 2012, she was cast in the pilot episode of the television series, Bunheads. She appeared in a short role as one of the Vegas Showgirls and was not credited for her role.

In 2015, she, along with her band R5, made a guest appearance in an episode of Violetta. On the show, they performed their single Heart Made Up on You.

On April 16, 2015, she appeared in the band's concert movie, R5: All Day, All Night, which was screened in select Regal cinemas for one night only. She revealed her relationship with fellow band member Ellington Ratliff in the documentary.

In 2009, Rydel Lynch, along with her brothers Riker, Rocky, and Ross Lynch, and family friend Ellington Ratliff, founded the rock band R5. Her youngest brother Ryland served as the manager of the group. They started by creating a YouTube channel, where they posted the web series, R5 TV, documenting their everyday lives.

The band released their first music video, Without You, on September 5, 2010. It was later included in their self-released five-track EP titled Ready Set Rock, which was released on March 9, 2010.

In April 2012, R5 signed a deal with Hollywood Records. The next month, they went on their first tour titled the West Coast Tour, where she performed a cover of Call Me Maybe.

The debut EP of the band Loud was released on February 19, 2013. It contained four songs, including the lead single Loud. The EP reached the top 3 of the iTunes chart on the day of its release.

On September 24, 2013, R5 released their debut studio album, Louder, which ranked number 2 on the iTunes charts. She sang the track Love Me Like That which was received with positive reviews.

R5 released their third EP, Heart Made Up on You, on July 22, 2014. Once again, it received praise from the critics. The EP contained four tracks including the title track, Heart Made Up on You, which the group has performed a number of times, including at We Day and on the TV series Violetta.

On July 10, 2015, the band released their second full-length album, Sometime Last Night. The lead single of the album, Smile, was released on November 14, 2014, and was performed live later that month at the American Music Awards pre-show and in Good Morning America. The album contains the song Lightning Strikes, sung by Rydel Lynch.

In 2017, the band came out with their final Extended Play titled “New Addictions.” The EP consisted of five singles including "If," "Lay Your Head Down," "Need You Tonight," "Trading Time," and “Red Velvet.”

In February 2018, R5 released a Youtube video titled “The Last Show” and soon after, the band officially disbanded.

The album Sometime Last Night is so far the highest-selling album of the band R5. It debuted at number 6 on the Billboard 200 chart and ranked No. 1 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart.

In 2013, Rydel Lynch, along with her band, won Radio Disney's Next Big Thing award. The same year, they were also nominated for Radio Disney Music Awards in the category of Best Acoustic Performance for the song Loud.

In 2014, they won two awards at the Radio Disney Music Awards. They won the special award Radio Disney Showstopper and the Best Band award.

Rydel Lynch had a crush on Ellington Ratliff since they first met. They started dating in 2013 but kept the relationship a secret till 2015. She proposed to him in 2017, but they split in 2018.

In 2019, Rydel began dating YouTuber Capron Funk. They got married in September 2020 and in April 2021, the couple welcomed their first child, a boy named Super. In 2022, Rydel Lynch and Capron Funk announced that they are expecting their second child, a baby girl. The couple welcomed their daughter in August 2022. The couple is now expecting their third child.

Rydel Lynch is the second cousin of professional dancers Derek Hough and Julianne Hough. Their grandmothers are sisters.

She also runs the family Youtube channel, The Funks, along with her husband Capron Funk. The channel currently has over 514k subscribers. She also has a self-titled channel where she posts catchy vlogs for around 500k subscribers.
