Ryan McCartan started his career with a small part in the theatrical version of Disney's ‘High School Musical’ in the year 2007. In 2013, he started playing the role of Diggie in Disney Channel’s comedy series ‘Liv and Maddie’. That year, he was also cast as Jason "J.D." Dean in the Off-Broadway play ‘Heathers: The Musical’ that premiered at New World Stages. Soon after, the actor starred as William Phipps V in the comedy-drama series ‘Royal Pains’.

He featured in the direct-to-video movie ‘R.L. Stine's Monsterville: Cabinet of Souls’ in 2015. Around the same time, McCartan launched the pop duo ‘The Girl and the Dreamcatcher’. The group’s first single titled "Written in the Stars" was released in October 2015. In the year 2016, the actor was cast in the lead role of Brad Majors in a musical television movie called ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again’. The following year, he had guest appearances in two episodes of 'Midnight, Texas' and was also cast in a recurring role in the horror web TV series ‘Freakish’. In September 2018, he made his Broadway debut in ‘Wicked.’ He was also featured in an episode of ‘Love Daily’ the same year.

Ryan McCartan was born on June 14, 1993 in Excelsior, Minnesota, USA, to Pam and Conn McCartan, who served as the principal at the Eden Prairie High School in Minnesota until his retirement in the year 2018. Ryan studied at Minnetonka High School where he was extremely active in choir and theater. He was diagnosed with diabetes in his childhood. In 2011, he was one of the two recipients of Jimmy Award, the highest honor bestowed by the National High School Musical Theater Awards.

Talking about the actor’s love life, he started dating singer cum actress Dove Cameron in 2013. The two got engaged in April 2016. However, their relationship ended later that year. McCartan then began dating Samantha Fekete in 2017.
