Career
Ian Nelson began his film career with a role in the dystopian sci-fi movie ‘The Hunger Games’ which was the first installment in the ‘The Hunger Games’ movie series. Directed by Gary Ross, it was based on the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. The story takes place in a nation where 12 districts must send a boy and a girl each year to take part in the Hunger Games, a ‘fight till death’ event, where only one volunteer survives and wins. Nelson played the role of the male volunteer from the third district. The film was a commercial success, earning around nine times its budget. It was also met with positive reviews.
The next year, he was seen in a small role in the historical film ‘Alone yet Not Alone’. The film was a commercial disaster. He also appeared in three episodes of the TV series ‘Teen Wolf’, where he played the younger version of the main character Derek Hale.In 2014, he had a small role in the legal drama film ‘The Judge’. The film was a commercial success and also won multiple awards and nominations. The same year, he also had a supporting role in the romantic drama ‘The Best of Me’. The film wasn’t much of a commercial success and was met with negative reviews.
His first important role on the big screen was in the 2015 American erotic thriller ‘The Boy Next Door’. Directed by Rob Cohen, the film was a huge financial success. It earned $52 million on a $4 million budget. However, it earned negative reviews from critics. The story was about a young man, who after having a one night stand with his neighbor, develops an obsession with her.
In 2016, he appeared in a few episodes of the TV series ‘The Deleted’. He next played a supporting role in the 2017 comedy drama film ‘Freak Show’. The film was directed by Trudie Styler. He was then seen in the American film ‘Like Me’ which was directed by Robert Mockler. The same year, he also appeared in the TV series ‘There’s… Johnny!’
