Rory Culkin Biography

Rory Culkin started his career by acting alongside his older brothers, often playing younger versions of their characters. He did his first role when he was 4 years old. He appeared alongside his brother Macaulay Culkin as the young Richie in ‘Richie Rich’. He did his first substantial role in ‘You Can Count on Me’ (2000). He won the ‘Young Artist Award’ for this film. Rory is best known for his work in M.Night Shyamalan's science-fiction thriller ‘Signs’(2002). In the same year, he appeared in the cult film ‘Igby Goes Down’ as the younger version of his brother Kieran Culkin. He did a leading role in ‘Mean Creek’(2004), a film about a group of teenagers, and the whole cast won the ‘Independent Spirit Award’. His other films are ‘Down in the Valley’(2005), ‘Lymelife’(2008), ‘Scream4’(2011), ‘Electrik Children’(2013), ‘Gabriel’(2015) ‘Columbus’(2017), and ‘Lord of Chaos’(2019). ‘Lymelife’ was his first opportunity to show that he could be funny, sensitive and geeky. But ‘Lord of Chaos’ took him to a whole new level of popularity. Rory also appeared in TV serials such as ‘The Twilight Zone’(2002), ‘Law and Order: Special Victims Unit’(2003) and ‘Waco’(2018). As of 2018, Rory is playing the character of Willie in ‘Castle Rock’.

Rory Culkin was born on July 21, 1989, in New York City. He is the youngest son of Christopher ‘Kit’ Culkin, a former stage actor, and Patricia Brentrup. His father has Irish, German, English, Swiss-German and French ancestry. His mother has half German-half Norwegian ancestry. Rory has four brothers and two sisters. They are Shane Culkin, Dakota Culkin, Macaulay Culkin, Kieran Culkin, Quinn Culkin and Christian Culkin. Macaulay Culkin and Kieran Culkin were acting even before Rory started his career. Dakota Culkin died tragically in an accident in 2008. His father Kit Culkin is notorious for being one of Hollywood's most overbearing stage fathers. He was very pushy and a controlling manager to his sons.

Rory's parents split up in 1995. Rory grew up in New York along with his mother and the rest of his siblings. He studied in ‘Professional Children’s School’. He maintains a strong relationship with his mother and siblings. Rory is the nephew of Bonnie Bedelia, who is his father's sister. Rory Culkin married his longtime girlfriend, Sara Scrivener, on April 7, 2018, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He met her in 2011 on the sets of ‘Scream4’ where she was working as a cinematographer.
