Parvati Shallow is an American TV celebrity who rose to fame for her appearance in the reality TV show ‘Survivor’. As a child, Shallow grew up in an ashram where yoga and meditation became part of her life early. She also learnt martial arts and boxing from an early age. After getting her university degree she moved to Los Angeles. Here, she competed in professional boxing events, got a job as a public relations officer and also dabbled in modeling. Entering the showbiz, Shallow originally auditioned for the reality show ‘The Amazing Race’ but was not selected. She was, however, called back for one of the seasons of ‘Survivor’. Shallow appeared in multiple seasons of the show, emerging a winner in her second season. She is considered one of the best contestants to win the show, with the show host Jeff Probst himself picking her out as one of his favorite winners. Shallow stood out in the series for her performance in the endurance challenges and the strategic moves she employed to win the games. Shallow has had a successful run in other TV shows as well. She now uses her varied experiences in life to help others reach their life goals. She is a celebrity life coach and is a frequent speaker at college and professional events. She also continues to teach yoga and meditation.

Childhood & Early Life
Parvati Shallow was born in Vero Beach, Florida on September 21, 1982. She is the eldest daughter of Mike and Gale Shallow and has two siblings, a brother, Kaelan, and a sister, Sodashi.
She had an unusual childhood. She grew up in an ashram commune near Vero Beach where her family lived with several other families in a ranch. The lifestyle in the ashram included yoga, meditation, and vegetarian food. Shallow’s sense of community and her deep ties with nature were nurtured in the ashram.
The Shallow family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, when she was 11 years old. Shallow went to the ‘Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication’, University of Georgia. She got a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in French.
In her junior year in college, Shallow went backpacking through Europe. This adventurous experience helped her become independent and taught her survival skills which came in handy for her when she competed in grueling reality TV shows.
During her youth, she also trained in martial arts. She started competing in boxing championships in the Los Angeles area in 2004.

Early Career
Parvati Shallow moved to Los Angeles after completing her college education. She found work as a public relations officer. She also took up modeling.
Looking to kick-start a career in television, she auditioned for the reality TV series ‘The Amazing Race’. She was not selected, but she made enough of an impact for the show’s creators to remember her.
When the ‘Survivor: Cook Islands’ series was being planned, the show’s creators called Shallow to be part of it. The selection process comprised of grueling interviews which Shallow aced.
Once she was selected for the show, Parvati Shallow returned to Georgia to train for the part. Together with her father and her brother, she practiced archery and learnt to use the slingshot. She also learnt how to make fire, purify water and build a shelter using the US Army survival guide.
Rise to Fame
Parvati Shallow first appeared in the 13th season of the ‘Survivor’ series - ‘Survivor: Cook Islands’ in 2006. She is remembered in this season for using her flirtatiousness to her advantage. She was voted out on day 36.

In 2007, Shallow was selected to participate in the 16th season, named ‘Survivor: Micronesia’. She returned as a show favorite and defeated Amanda Kimmel to become the sole survivor, the winner of the series.

The 20th season of ‘Survivor,’ named ‘Survivor: Heroes Vs. Villains,’ saw Shallow return to the show again in 2010. She survived till the very end but lost the sole survivor spot to winner Sandra Diaz-Twine.

In 2010, Parvati Shallow branched out into wellness and opened a wellness centre in Santa Monica. The centre helps clients with addictions and eating disorders. She herself taught boxing and yoga at the centre.

She continued working for the entertainment industry, and the year 2011, saw her hosting the third season of the web series ‘Around the World for Free’. The show, which lasted 100 days, took her to countries all around the world like Dominican Republic, Guyana, South Africa, and Namibia.

From 2013 to 2015, she hosted the ‘Survivor After Show’ where she and a special guest talked about the recently aired ‘Survivor’ episodes.

Parvati Shallow also competed in the ‘Survivor: Winners at War’ series in 2020, where she placed 16th.

Awards & Achievements
In 2010, Parvati Shallow became one of the first five contestants to be inducted into the ‘Survivor Hall of Fame.’
During the 15th anniversary celebration of ‘Survivor,’ in a poll held by ‘CBS Watch’, viewers voted Shallow as the fourth greatest contestant in the history of the show.
Family & Personal Life

Parvati Shallow met her future husband, John Fincher, in 2013, when they shared a ride together on their way to a Soccer Charity Event in Los Angeles. Fincher was a contestant from ‘Survivor: Samoa’. They got married on July 16, 2017. The couple has a daughter who was born in 2018.

She is involved in various charities. She and a few fellow boxers run ‘Knockouts for Girls,’ a non-profit organization for underprivileged girls. The organization funds their education and trains them in boxing.
Following her high-profile life as a reality TV star, Shallow has also become a celebrity corporate and life coach. She is an inspirational speaker and has traveled all over the world giving talks at schools, colleges and professional events. She is a yoga practitioner and has advanced certifications in Hatha Yoga and Kundalini Yoga.
