Margaret Field was an American actress who was also known as Maggie Mahoney. She acted in many movies and TV shows. She is best known for her work in the science fiction film ‘The Man from Planet X’ in which she played the lead role. She was more successful in television shows and appeared in dozens of popular television shows of the 50s and 60s. She was the mother of two-time Oscar-winning actress Sally Field. She was born in Houston, Texas. She moved to Pasadena, California in the early 1940s during World War II. She went to ‘Pasadena Junior College’ studying voice training and acting while acting in films. She was discovered by a talent scout and signed a contract with ‘Paramount Pictures’ and started her career in acting. Initially, she did small parts in films before she started doing roles in television shows. She gave up acting in her mid-30s and focused on her family.

Margaret Field lived in Pasadena, California during World War II. She was discovered by a talent scout on a street corner and signed a contract for 18 months with ‘Paramount Pictures’ in the mid-1940s. Initially, she appeared in a series of short films. She did small roles in 26 full-length films from 1946-1953. Her most memorable film was ‘The Man from Planet X’ (1951), in which she played the lead role. Her other films were ‘Big Clock’(1948), ‘Samson and Delilah’(1949), ‘Captive Women’(1952), ‘The Story of Will Rogers’(1952), ‘This is Love’(1953), ‘Inside Detroit’(1956).
Margaret Field was more popular on television shows. She acted in some of the most popular shows of the 1950s and 60s. Some of them are ‘Alcoa Theater’, ‘The Twilight Zone’, ‘Perry Mason’, ‘Bonanza’, ‘The Untouchables’, ‘It Takes a Thief’, ‘Yancy Derringer’, ‘To Rome With Love’, ‘The F.B.I’ and ‘My Three Sons’. She appeared in more than 70 television shows and worked in Hollywood for almost 30 years.

Margaret Field was born on May 10, 1922, in Houston, Texas, USA, to Wallace Miller Morlan and Joy Beatrice. In the early 1940s during World War II, her family moved to Pasadena, California. She was discovered by a talent scout and started her career in acting.
Margaret Field married Richard Dryden Field, an army officer in 1942. They had two children, Sally Field, a famous actress and Richard Field, a physicist. Margaret divorced Richard Field in 1950.
Margaret Field married the noted Hollywood stuntman and actor, Jock Mahoney, on January 21, 1952, in Tijuana, New Mexico. From then on she was billed as Maggie Mahoney. They had a daughter, Princess O’Mahoney, who later on went on to become an actress and director. Margaret divorced Jock Mahoney in 1968.
When Margaret's daughter Sally turned 22 she virtually stopped acting and focused on her family. She helped her children pursue their passions in acting, film production, and in the case of Richard, quantum chromodynamic physics. She had seven grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren
Margaret Field battled with cancer for six years. She died at her residence in Malibu, California on November 6, 2011, on Sally Field's 65th birthday.
