Born to established actors, Fernando Lamas and Arlene Dahl, Lamas knew at a young age that he wanted to work in the film industry. He studied acting at Tony Barr’s Film Actors Workshop and soon made his debut with a minor role in the hit musical ‘Grease’ in 1978. After this early break, he began starring as a guest actor in many low-budget films in the 1980s. He received his break and recognition after joining the cast of ‘Falcon Crest’ as Lance Cumson, a series that ran for nine years. His performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination. His next breakthrough was his portrayal of Reno Raines in the crime series ‘Renegade’, which was a popular show during its day. However, his trajectory since the 2000s has gone down as he mostly worked in action movies with repetitive themes and stories. Despite being selective about his roles, Lamas couldn’t get out of the action hero stereotype. Therefore, he decided to embark on a new career altogether. He is currently working as a tourist helicopter pilot who flies tourists from Los Angeles to Grand Canyon.

Lorenzo Lamas was born on January 20, 1958 in Santa Monica, California to Fernando Lamas and Arlene Dahl. His parents were actors, and his stepmother Esther Williams was an actress as well. He grew up in Pacific Palisades and later moved to New York City in 1971.
He studied at the Admiral Farragut Academy in Pine Beach and graduated from there in 1975. He was also an active practitioner of Taekwondo and earned his black belt as a teenager.

Career
To provide wings to his acting aspirations, Lorenzo Lamas studied at the Film Actors Workshop by Tony Barr. He made his debut in 1978 musical ‘Grease’ with a minor role. Soon, other guest roles in movies such as ‘Takedown’, ‘Tilt’, and ‘Bodyrock’ followed.
In 1981, he received his breakthrough after being cast as Lance Cumson in the drama series ‘Falcon Crest’. His role earned him several nominations, including a Golden Globe. He went on to appear in 227 episodes for the show, which ran for nine years until 1990.
In 1984, he starred in the box-office disaster, ‘Body Rock’. The film was widely panned by critics and viewers alike, and Lamas was nominated for the Worst Actor at the Golden Raspberry Award.
In the 1990s, he starred in a series of martial-arts films in which he portrayed the action hero. Some of his movies during this period include ‘Gladiator Cop’ (1995), ‘Terminal Justice’ (1996), and ‘Undercurrent’ (1998).
In 1992, Lamas was cast as Reno Raines in the crime series ‘Renegade’, which ran for six seasons until 1997. While the series wasn’t a critical success, it was quite popular among viewers. Other TV series such as ‘Invasion America’, ‘Air America’, and The Immortal’ followed.
In the early 2000s, he was seen in movies, such as ’13 Dead Men’ (2003), ‘Motocross Kids’ (2004), ‘Lethal’ (2005), ‘Killing Cupid’ (2005), and ‘Mexican Gold’ (2009). He also had a recurring role as Hector Ramirez in the series ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ from 2004 to 2006.
He branched to stage and was seen in plays such as ‘The King and I’, ‘Dracula’, and ‘The Fantasticks’ in 2007. He made a return to stage when he played Zach in ‘A Chorus Line’ in 2009.
Since 2010, his appearances in both TV and films reduced and he was often seen only in guest roles. Some of his notable films of this decade include ‘Raptor Ranch’ (2012), ‘Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!’ (2015), and ‘What Would Jesus Do’ (2015).
In 2014, Lamas published his autobiography ‘Renegade at Heart’, which was co-written by Jeff Lenburg. Since then, he has been part of many TV shows a guest host and celebrity star. He was seen in ‘The Eric Andre Show’ in 2012; in ‘The Joe Schmo Show’ in 2013; in ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ in 2014; and in ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ in 2015.
In 2016, he decided to switch careers and made a drastic move of becoming a tourist helicopter pilot. He currently flies people from Los Angeles to Grand Canyon. When asked the reason behind his sudden switch, he stated that the film industry was volatile, and he wanted to do something for himself.

Lorenzo Lamas has been married six times. He was first married to Victoria Hilbert from 1981 to 1982, but they divorced. In 1983, he married Michele Cathy Smith and they had two children together: Alvaro Joshua and Shayne. However, the couple separated in 1985. He also has a daughter Paton Lee with actress Daphne Ashbrook.
He married his co-star Kathleen Kinmont in 1989, but they divorced in 1993. He got engaged to Playboy Playmate Barbara Moore for a brief period before the wedding was called off. His fourth marriage took place in 1996 with actress Shauna Sand. They have three daughters together: Alexandra Lynne, Victoria, and Isabella Lorenza. Their marriage ended in a bitter divorce in 2002.
He married Shawna Craig in April 2011, but he later divorced her in 2018, citing irreconcilable differences.
Trivia
Lorenzo Lamas was best friends with actress Jane Wyman, and the duo shared a deep bond. He has stated that she is his favorite actor of all time. Wyman was the first wife of President Ronald Regan, and she passed away in 2007.
