Liza Powel O’Brien was born as Elizabeth Ann Powel on November 12, 1970 in Bainbridge Island, Washington to Jake Powel, the guitarist of the Dixieland band, and his wife, Ann. Her father has been playing the guitar at New Orleans Creole Restaurant every Monday for more than 20 years.

She studied at Vassar College and later graduated from Columbia University's School of the Arts. As for now, she owns several residences alongside her husband in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Career

Liza Powel O’Brien began her career as an advertising executive and worked for Foote, Cone & Belding. She then switched to screenwriting and penned plays for theaters and festivals across Seattle, New York, and Los Angeles. She has also appeared in numerous TV shows, including ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’, ‘Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop’, ‘60 Minutes’ and ‘SXSW Flashback 2011’.

She is also associated with “Beat the Odds” program of the Children’s Defense Fund, an organization that helps at-risk high school pupils who are academically talented. She also serves on Ojai Playwrights’ reading committee.

Relationship with Conan O'Brien

Liza Powel and Conan O’Brien met in the year 2000 when she appeared in a skit on his show. O’Brien fell in love at first sight with her! In a candid interview with Piers Morgan, O’Brien stated, ''Somewhere, in the vault at NBC, there's footage of me literally falling for my wife on camera.'' The two eventually began dating and got engaged in July 2001. The following year, on January 12, 2002, they tied the sacred knot. Their wedding ceremony was held at the St. James Cathedral in Seattle, Washington, followed by the wedding reception at Union Station, Seattle. The couple has two children, Neve, who was born in 2003, and Beckett, who was born in 2005.

Liza Powel and Conan O'Brien’s share a loving relationship. In 2010, when O’Brien was unexpectedly dropped as the host of ‘The Tonight Show,’ he became terribly upset and depressed. Powel, in an interview with ‘Rolling Stone,’ talked about her husband’s mental status after the incident. She said that he was deeply upset for weeks and was struggling with depressive thoughts. During this time, she helped him come out of misery by engaging him in productive tasks like cooking dinner and dropping off the children at school. With her support, he eventually regained his mental health.
