Kim Wayans is an American actress, director, and writer who became popular after appearing in the family comedy series ‘In Living Color’. When Kim wanted to enter the world of acting, her siblings had already made a name for themselves. She started off by appearing in a string of TV series in guest roles before joining the cast of the family show ‘In Living Color’, which proved to be her breakthrough. After appearing in over 100 episodes of the comedy series, she started getting more roles in both TV series and movies. Her most notable performances include that of Tonia Harris in ‘In the House’, Mrs. Johnson in ‘Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood’, Audrey in ‘Pariah’, and Vi Briggs in ‘Reckless’. Her performance in the movie ‘Pariah’ earned her several award nominations. She is also known for her one-woman show, which has performed well at various theatres. Apart from acting, Kim Wayans is also a reputed children’s author and has written a series of children’s novels. Her most recent appearances include roles in the popular series ‘The Breaks’, ‘New Girl’, and ‘Marlon’.

Career
After graduating from Wesleyan University, Kim Wayans decided to start working in the entertainment industry. Given that her family had already established themselves in Hollywood, Kim had it easy. She made her TV debut in the series ‘A Different World’ as Allison and appeared in 11 episodes from 1987 to 1988. In 1988, she played the role of Cameo Candette in the drama ‘China Beach’. She also made her film debut in the same year with a minor role in ‘I’m Gonna Git You Sucka’. In 1990, she was seen in the TV series ‘Dream On’ as Nicki. Her biggest breakthrough came in 1990 when she started appearing in the family comedy sketch show ‘In Living Color’ from 1990 to 1993 and later in 2001. The series was extremely popular, and Kim appeared in over 115 episodes in different roles and even wrote an episode herself. With the rising popularity of ‘In Living Color’, she exclusively focused on the series and didn’t appear in other shows until 1993. In 1994, she was seen in the movies ‘Floundering’, ‘A Low Down Dirty Shame’, and ‘Talking About Sex’.
In 1995, she was cast in a leading role in the series ‘In the House’. The comedy series was hugely popular, and Kim appeared in 50 episodes from 1995 to 1998. In the same year, she also appeared in ‘The Wayans Bros.’ as Sheila and later played the same character again in 1998. In 1996, she appeared in the movie as ‘Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood’ as Mrs. Johnson. She also voiced the character of the mom in ‘Waynehead’ from 1996 to 1997. Over the next couple of years, her appearances dwindled. She was seen in the movie ‘Critics and Other Freaks’ (1997) and the TV series ‘Getting Personal’. She began the new millennium with the movie ‘Juwanna Mann’ in 2002. She played the role of Latisha Jansen. After a four-year break, she was seen on the big screen in 2007 with a role in the TV movie ‘What News’ as Pearl Davis. Later, she played the role of Ms. Dontwannabebothered in ‘Dance Flick’ (2009) and that of Audrey in ‘Pariah’ (2011). In 2007, she was seen in the theatres with her one-woman show titled ‘A Handsome Woman Retreats’
In 2012, she appeared in an episode of ‘Criminal Minds’ as Darelene Beckett. Similarly, in the next year, she was cast in the guest role of Dr. Owens in the TV series ‘The Soul Man’. In 2014, she finally received another leading role in the crime drama series ‘Reckless’, where she played Vi Briggs in 13 episodes. Since then, Kim has only been seen in guest appearances. In 2015, she played Diane in ‘Hawaii Five-0’ and portrayed the role of Karen Halford in ‘Hit the Floor’ and Susan in ‘New Girl’ the next year. In 2017, she played the role of Ella in the TV series ‘The Breaks’ for three episodes. She also appeared in the movie ‘Ray Meets Helen’ (2017) as Faye. Her last role on the big screen was as Miss Shabazz in the comedy series ‘Marlon’ in 2018. Wayans career so far has seen her wearing many hats, including that of a writer and director. She also turned an author in 2008 when she co-wrote a series of books alongside her husband Kevin Knotts titled ‘Amy Hodgepodge’.

Kim N Wayans was born on October 16, 1961 in New York City, U.S.A to Elvira Alethia and Howell Stouten Wayans. Her father worked as a supermarket manager, while her mother was a homemaker. The family belonged to the Jehovah’s Witnesses sect. They grew up in the neighborhood of Chelsea. Her siblings include the popular actors Damon Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, and Nadia Wayans. She graduated from Seward Park High School. She has been married to actor and writer Kevin Knotts. The couple does not have any children.
