Julie Dawn Cole is an English actress best known for portraying the spoiled Veruca Salt in the musical fantasy film ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’. She started acting at the age of 12 and has been active in the industry for more than 40 years now. After qualifying as a fitness instructor in 1998, she went on to work in a number of dramas including ‘Fat Families’ and ‘Emmerdale’. Known for her beautiful dark blue eyes and wavy ash blonde hair, Cole was much admired for her beauty as a young woman. Besides being an actress, Cole also works as a psychotherapist. She even owns a drama school called ‘Centrestage’. A divorced woman, she was earlier married to actor cum scriptwriter Nick Wilton with whom she has two children. Whenever not shooting, she likes spending time with her children. She is a frequent traveler and visits USA annually to do her Christmas shopping.

Julie Dawn Cole began her acting career at the age of 12 when she was cast as Veruca Salt in ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’, an American musical fantasy film adapted from Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In the early 1970s, she appeared in the British television series ‘And Mother Makes Three’, a story of a newly widowed mother of two who tries to hold down a job as an associate to a veterinarian. In the mid 1970s, the actress played a nurse in the British drama ‘Angels’ and also starred in a few episodes of a detective show titled ‘Van Der Valk’. Her other acting credits in that decade include ‘Paganini Strikes Again’, ‘The Mill on the Floss’ and ‘That Lucky Touch’.
In 1984, Cole appeared alongside Colin Firth and Greta Scacchi in the TV movie ‘Camille’. She next appeared as 'Robot 35' in ‘Galloping Galaxies’, a British children's television series set in the 25th century about the adventures of the Spaceship Voyager. Soon after this, the actress starred in the drama series ‘WYSIWYG’ and ‘Married for Life’, the latter of which was a remake of the popular American soap opera ‘Married... with Children’.
In her long career, Cole has also contributed to theater. She has also worked on radio, most notably in BBC Radio 2 broadcasts including ‘Puss in Boots,’ ‘Mother Goose’ and ‘Dick Whittington,’ all of which premiered in the late 1970s and early 1980s. During the 2000s, she appeared in several TV programs, such as ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘Fat Families’. In 2010, she co-starred in the Edinburgh Fringe show ‘Willy Wonka Revisited: The Veruca Salt Sessions’ and discussed Veruca’s life and her obsessive fans and followers with her unseen therapist.
Currently, Cole also works as a psychotherapist. In 2002, she founded Centrestage, a kids’ acting drama school located outside of London.

Julie Dawn Cole was born on 26 October 1957 in Guildford, Surrey, England. In 1990, she gave birth to actor/scriptwriter Nick Wilton’s child, a daughter named Holly. The two married a year later. In 1993, Cole gave birth to their second child, son Barnaby. The couple eventually separated in 2002.
