Tamzin Merchant’s first role on the big screen was in the romance film ‘Pride & Prejudice’ in 2005. Directed by Joe Wright, the film was based on the well-known 1813 novel of the same name by Jane Austen. Made on a budget of around $40 million, the film managed to earn three times its budget. The same year, she also appeared in the TV film ‘My Family and Other Animals’, in a supporting role. In 2006, Merchant was seen in two more TV films which were ‘The Good Housekeeping Guide’ and ‘Casualty 1906’. In 2008, she had an important role in the film ‘Radio Cape Cod’, a film which was directed and produced by Andrew Silver. She played a teenage girl who has recently lost her father. While her mother meets someone new, she herself experiences her first love.
In 2009, she was seen in ‘Princess Kaiulani,’ a British-American biographical drama film which was based on a princess named Ka’iulani in the Kingdom of Hawai’i.
