James Tupper is a Canadian actor who is popularly known for his role of ‘David Clarke’ in the ABC drama series ‘Revenge’. He has appeared in several television shows over the last decade, including in special roles in ‘CSI: NY’, ‘How I Met Your Mother’, and ‘Grey's Anatomy’. He has played important roles in shows like ‘Men in Trees’ and ‘Mercy’ as well as appearing in a few television films. He began his career as a theater actor and learned a great deal about the craft of acting on the stage before venturing into television and films as well. He has also tried his hands at writing scripts for stage plays. James Tupper made his debut on the silver screen in the early 2000s, making an appearance as a law enforcement official in the film ‘Corky Romano.’ In the ensuing years, he has mostly appeared in drama films as a supporting actor and has worked alongside the likes of Jim Carrey, Gerard Butler, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Career
James Tupper has been active in the theater industry for a few years and has appeared in a number of off-Broadway productions. He made his film debut in 2001, with a role of an FBI agent in ‘Corky Romano’. He appeared as a law enforcement personnel in another film, ‘Joe Dirt’, the same year. In the 2005 independent film ‘Loudmouth Soup’, James Tupper appeared as ‘Keith Miller.’ He also co-wrote the script.
He made his debut on television in 2005 with a special role in the police procedural series ‘CSI: NY’. He also appeared in TV shows like ‘Gilmore Girls’ and ‘How I Met Your Mother’ in special appearances. Tupper received his first big break on television in 2006 after he was offered the role of ‘Jack Slattery’ in the romantic series ‘Men in Trees’. He was part of the show for 36 episodes between 2006 and 2008. He appeared as ‘Owen’ in ‘Samantha Who?’ and ‘Dr. Chris Sands’ in the medical drama ‘Mercy’. He appeared in another medical drama show ‘Grey's Anatomy’ as ‘Dr. Andrew Perkins’ between 2010 and 2011. However, it was the role of ‘David Clarke’ in the ABC drama ‘Revenge’ between 2011 and 2015 that made him a household name. He became a series regular in the fourth season after playing a recurring role in the first three seasons. He is a regular in the drama series ‘Big Little Lies’ and has appeared in two episodes of ‘The Brave’.
Tupper appeared in the 2011 family drama film ‘Mr. Popper's Penguins’ alongside Jim Carrey. A year later, he appeared in the multi-starrer romantic film ‘Playing for Keeps’, alongside Gerard Butler, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Dennis Quaid, Jessica Biel, and Uma Thurman. His other film credits include ‘Nothing Left to Fear’, ‘Decoding Annie Parker’, and ‘My Sweet Audrina’.

James Tupper was born on August 4, 1965, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. He attended Concordia University, Montreal, where he studied acting and later went to Rutgers University in New Jersey to complete his master’s degree.
He married Kate Mayfield in 2001 but the marriage didn’t last long and the couple got divorced five years later. He then began a relationship with his ‘Men in Trees’ co-star Anne Heche, with whom he has a son named Atlas Heche Tupper, born on March 7, 2009.
