Andrew Hozier-Byrne, better known as Hozier, is an Irish singer and songwriter who is best known for his single ‘Take Me to Church’. In 2014, the County Wicklow boy released his first studio album which became an instant hit and immediately brought him fame on the international blues music scene. His style of music is not only limited to blues but is also heavily influenced by the rock and R&B genres. The title song from his first extended play ‘Take Me to Church’ made a remarkable debut on all leading charts in the country by either occupying the first or the second positions. His second extended play and its title song also did well on the top charts, making in to the top 100 in the UK and reaching as high as the second place in Ireland. He is a two-time Billboard Music Award winner who has delivered numerous singles that have been accredited either gold or platinum.
- Born to a local blues musician, Hozier developed a love for music early on. He decided to study music and joined the Trinity College in Dublin and became a part of the Trinity Orchestra as well. However, he later dropped out when he received the opportunity to record demos for the American global music corporation ‘Universal Music’. He joined ‘Anúna’, a choral ensemble in Ireland, and was featured in their 2012 release Illumination singing ‘La Chanson de Mardi Gras’ as a soloist. He toured with the group until 2012 before deciding to follow his music career in a more independent way.In 2013, Hozier released his first Extended Play titled ‘Take Me to Church’ which became a huge success worldwide. The title song from the EP debuted on the top charts in many nations. It reached the no.1 position in Italy and Belgium and peaked at no. 2 in the US, the UK, Canada, and Germany, among others. The single earned the platinum certificate from various organizations across different countries, including the RIAA, RMNZ, BVMI, and MC. The title track also went viral on the internet and has over 210 million views on YouTube as of today. He won a BBC Music Award, two Billboard Music Awards, and a Teen Choice Award for the song. He also won a Grammy nomination for it in 2015.Hozier released his second EP, titled ‘From Eden,’ in March 2014. The EP was not as successful as the previous one; however, it did earn its fair share of acclaim. The title song from the EP peaked at no. 2 in Ireland and reached no. 69 in the UK. In the same year, Hozier released his self-titled debut studio album. It featured three singles, ‘Take Me to Church’, ‘Work Song’, and ‘From Eden’, from his two previous EP’s. The album topped the Ireland music chart and peaked at the second place in Canada and the US. The album received platinum certification in Ireland, Canada, Australia, the UK, the US, and New Zealand. Hozier won a European Border Breakers Award in 2015 for his debut studio album.Apart from his albums and EPs, Hozier has also appeared in several popular television shows like ‘Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2014’, ‘Saturday Night Live’, ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’, and ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’.
