Chasten Glezman is a Junior High School Teacher at ‘The Montessori Academy Edison Lakes’, in Mishawaka, Indiana. He teaches drama and humanities. However, he has taken a leave of absence in 2019 to support his spouse, Pete Buttigieg, on his campaign trail. His decision to be a teacher was shaped by the trials he faced as an isolated young gay kid. He found drama and theatre the perfect refuge from the loneliness and bullying he faced in school. He credits his drama teacher, Mrs. Bach as being his biggest inspiration.

He was inspired to become a teacher to help kids who are different, to believe in themselves and to give them a brighter future. But, his early beginnings were not smooth. After he was forced to leave home at the age of eighteen, he slept in his car and friends couches. His life took a turn when he went to Germany as an exchange student before his undergraduate studies. He found acceptance in Europe as a gay individual. When he came back to the USA, he enrolled at a community college. Chasten Glezman then went on to graduate from the ‘University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’ in 2011. He specialized in theatre arts and global studies. Then he landed his first job as a teacher at the ‘First Stage Theater Academy’ in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He taught drama to children suffering from autism and learning disabilities. He would simultaneously start working at ‘Starbucks’ to earn enough to support himself.

He met Pete while he was pursuing a Master’s degree in curriculum studies. He graduated from the ‘DePaul University’ in 2017 with an M.Ed. He then went on to join as a teacher at the ‘Montessori Academy’. As a teacher, he is credited to have reintroduced theatre and drama classes at Lower & Upper Elementary, and Junior High levels. Since 2019, he has also been the Director of Curriculum at the ‘South Bend Civic Theatre’.

Chasten Glezman has become immensely popular in the media and social media since Pete’s announcement of his Presidential nominee campaign. He has been supporting Pete Buttigieg on his campaign trail and often offers humorous anecdotes on social media and in speeches. He jokingly stated at the ‘Human Rights Campaign’ gala that “Never underestimate what can happen when you agree to go on a date with a cute guy from South Bend, Indiana.”

If Pete Buttigieg wins, he will become the first gay and youngest President of the USA. And Chasten will become the first ‘First Gentleman’. He has also dealt with serious issues like LGBT rights, and discrimination based on sexual preferences. He has mentioned in his speeches, the fear and loneliness young kids and people feel when they come out for the first time. It is this harmony between humor and educated refined speeches, which have gained him fame overnight.

Chasten Glezman-Buttigieg was born in Traverse City, Michigan, on June 23, 1989. His father is Terry Glezman and mother, Sherri Glezman. Chasten was the youngest of three siblings. Growing up as a gay individual in the Catholic family was a struggle for him. He had to leave home after coming out as gay at the age of 18.

Chasten Glezman met Pete Buttigieg in August 2015, through the dating app ‘Hinge’. They started talking to each other via ‘FaceTime’ and met face to face in September 2015, in South Bend. They went to a bar, watched a baseball game, and walked around the city. It was love at first sight and he moved in with Pete in 2016. By the end of 2017, they were engaged. Chasten Glezman married Pete Buttigieg on June 16, 2018, at the ‘Cathedral of Saint James Episcopal Church’. The marriage was attended by both his parents.
