Career
  • Originally, two of the four present members of Hey Violet, Rena and Nia Lovelis, were part of a hard rock group called Cherri Bomb. Founded in 2008, the group’s other members were Julia Pierce (lead vocals and lead guitar) and Miranda Miller (rhythm guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals). Rena played the bass and provided backup vocals while Nia was on the drums and percussion.
  • Pierce was the one who brought the other girls together and was often credited for the success of the band. According to the music critics, Cherri Bomb was at the forefront of hard rock revival. They released one studio album, ‘This Is the End of Control’, in 2012. Prior to the album’s release, the song ‘Shake the Ground’ appeared in The Avengers soundtrack.
  • The news of Pierce’s departure from Cherri Bomb was announced through a Facebook post on January 23, 2013. The band’s fans were shocked as Pierce was seen as the leader of the group. It was later found that a conflict between Pierce and Rena had become so problematic that they could not work together any longer. After Pierce left, Rena took her position as the lead singer and rebranded the group as Hey Violet.
  • Moreta and his future bandmates met for the first time at the Fusion music festival in 2012. While Rena had stepped up to be the group’s new lead singer, they still needed a new lead guitarist. They reached out to Moreta who happily accepted the offer. For the first two months, he served in the band as a temporary member. However, on 9 March 2013, during their live performance at the Viper Room, he formally joined the group.
  • Pierce’s departure also marked a significant change in the group’s sound. With Rena as the group leader, their music became more pop-oriented. In 2017, they released their first album as Hey violet, titled ‘From the Outside’. As Rena was focusing more on being the lead vocalist, the group found a bassist named Iain Shipp during the 2016 Sounds Live Feels Live World Tour. On August 31, 2017, Miller shared the news of her leaving the group, citing hectic touring schedule as the reason.
