Controversies & Scandals
Bobby Burns courted controversy in late 2017 after he uploaded a video titled 'Shane Dawson the "Conspiracy Theorist"' on November 22 and criticized the popular YouTuber known for his mini-series in which he explores haunted places. In the video, he went on to say that Dawson gets views by making videos on trending topics even though he has "terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible content." He quickly drew the ire of Dawson's 12 million-plus subscribers at the time, who posted hateful comments about Burns on various social media platforms. Dawson, however, invited Burns for a face-to-face conversation after watching his video and posted a three-part series in which he learnt about Burns' content and then confronted him about his comments.
In the second part of the series, Burns admitted to being a longtime fan of Dawson, following which some claimed that he used the bigger YouTuber's fame for publicity. Nevertheless, Dawson offered his 'hater' Burns to post a video every week on his own channel on Sundays starting in March 2018. Dawson also gifted him an expensive car, which further made his fans angry as they believed that another regular YouTuber on Dawson's channel, Destery Smith, deserved both the gift and the Sunday slot. In fact, they hated Burns so much that after the news came out that he had an accident with the new car, not only they blamed him for being ungrateful about the gift, they were also disappointed that he survived the accident. After Burns stopped posting videos on Dawson's channel on Sundays, the YouTuber 'Standard Procedure' spread the rumor with one of his videos that Dawson had fired Burns. However, Burns clarified on Twitter that he was not fired, and Dawson stated that the show was on hold and that they were still friends and would work together again. According to Burns, the creator of 'Standard Procedure' had apologized to him through email.
