Matthew Tyler Musto, known professionally as Blackbear, is a well-known American hip-hop singer, songwriter, and record producer. His first solo album was Deadroses, which had a set of ten tracks. The lead single Idfc was a huge success, earning a lot of popularity and appreciation. Following the success of his debut album, he released multiple other albums, including Cybersex. This album was an average success, peaking at the 47th position on the US Billboard 200. He has also released a few EPs, such as Afterglow and Foreplay. In his career so far, he has collaborated with several well-known artistes, such as Hoodie Allen, Justin Bieber, James Black, and Pharrell Williams. He was a co-writer of the song Boyfriend by Justin Bieber; the song was a huge hit and peaked at the 2nd position on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2014, Blackbear began to monetize streaming on SoundCloud, becoming one of the first independent artistes to do so.

Blackbear’s music career began while he was still in high school. He joined the rock band Polaroid as a singer. Signed with Leakmob Records, the band released one album named Paint the Town and one extended play named Inside and Out.

He eventually left the band to begin his solo career. His first extended play Brightness was released in 2008. He released two more EPs, Contrast, released in 2009, and Exposure, released in 2010.  This was followed by Year of the Blackbear EP in 2011.

In early 2012, he collaborated with Justin Bieber to work on his single Boyfriend. It became a huge hit, peaking at the 2nd position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also charted in many other countries, such as Canada, Norway, and Portugal. It was met with mixed reviews from critics. The same year, in April, he released the EP Foreplay, and in October, he released his debut mixtape Sex. His next EP was Afterglow, which was released in 2014.

His first full length album, Deadroses, was released in February 2015. It contained ten tracks. The lead single Idfc was a major success, and charted on the Billboard R&B Hot 100. It became very popular and has been streamed millions of times on SoundCloud. The second single 90210 was also a success, and gained millions of streams on SoundCloud as well. The same year, he also released his second album Help.

His third album Digital Druglord released in April 2017. It peaked at the 14th position on the US Billboard 200, and also entered the charts in other countries, such as Canada and the Netherlands. He released another album in November the same year: Cybersex. It entered the US Billboard 200, reaching the 47th position.

In 2019, Blackbear released his fourth studio album Anonymous, which peaked at number 36 on the US Billboard 200. The following year, he came up with his fifth studio album Everything Means Nothing, which peaked at number 15 on the same chart. In 2021, he released another EP named Misery Lake and was featured in Avril Lavigne's Love It When You Hate Me in 2022.

Personal Life

Blackbear was born Matthew Tyler Muston in Pittston, Pennsylvania on 27th November 1990. He moved to Florida when he was still a child. Later, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and eventually to Los Angeles in California.

Blackbear is engaged to actress and social media personality Michele Maturo. The couple has a son named Midnight Thomas Musto, who was born on January 26, 2020. On September 20, 2021, Blackbear announced that he and Michele are expecting their second child.

He donated $5,514 to the Las Vegas Victims’ Fund for the victims of mass shooting on 1st October 2017. The contribution included proceeds from the sale of merchandise at a concert.
