Aaron Yoo is a cinematographer and actor of Korean origin. Amongst the many Asians residing in the United States, Aaron Yoo is one of the few people who have definitely made their community proud. Though he’s experienced in the cinematography aspect of film-making, Yoo is more popular for his contribution to the world of cinema, as an actor. Aaron had initially pursued writing during his university days, but soon discovered that he would be a better actor, than a writer. Post his graduation, Aaron stepped into the television industry, where he essayed small roles for a few years before getting an opportunity to move into the much bigger and challenging movie industry. Starting with a horror flick by name ‘Disturbia’, which also co-starred popular actor and friend, Shia LaBeouf, Aaron has more than a dozen movies to his credit, where he has proved his prowess in acting. Even after working in many films, Yoo still continues to stay attached to television. His latest TV project ‘The Tomorrow People’, sees him play the lead role of ‘Russell Kwan’. The show has one won wide acclaim from critics and audiences alike.

Childhood & Early Life
Aaron Yoo was born to Korean parents, on May 12, 1979 in East Brunswick Township, New Jersey. Yoo also has a sister who is older than him.
Yoo completed his primary education from East Brunswick High School. During his school days, Yoo played Cello for the orchestra.
He later went to the University of Pennsylvania to pursue his higher education. Aaron was a member of the college fraternity by name ‘Sigma Nu’. He passed out of the university in the year 2001, after which he ventured into acting.

Career
Aaron’s first work in front of the camera was for a television series called ‘Ed’, in the year 2003, where he was seen in just a single episode. Since then he has appeared in five other television projects, where his role lasted for one episode.
Aaron’s major breakthrough came in the form of a horror flick by name ‘Disturbia’ in the year 2007. This movie, which also starred Shia Lebeouf, turned out to be a great turning point in Yoo’s career.
In the year 2008, Yoo starred in the heist-drama movie ‘21’, where he got to share screen space with famous Academy Award winners like Kevin Spacey and Laurence Fishburne. This movie also turned out to become a major box office success in spite of the mixed reviews from critics.
In the same year, he also starred in two other movies namely ‘The Wackness’ and ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’. ’The Wackness’ gave Aaron an opportunity to share screen space with the legendary actor Sir Ben Kingsley.
Yoo also starred in the remake of the famous movie ‘Friday The 13th’. Prior to the commencement of the shooting, Yoo had got his appendix surgically removed, which prevented him from shooting his scenes immediately. However, he completed his portions of the film in spite of the surgical wounds.
Aaron’s stint with television continued even post 2007. At present, he has been working on the popular American science fiction television series ‘The Tomorrow People’, in the lead role.
Major Works
The movie which paved way for many opportunities for Aaron was the 2007 horror film ‘Disturbia’. The plot of this movie, which was loosely based on legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window’, saw him play actor Shia Labeouf’s best friend. Yoo turned out to be a show stealer even in this supporting role.
The year 2007 also saw the release of ‘Rocket Science’, a movie produced by the American TV channel HBO. Aaron played the role of ‘Heston’, a friend of the protagonist. It’s claimed that this character was inspired by a real-life critic.
After playing many supporting roles, and characters of little significance, Yoo s finally got an opportunity to play a very important role in the American television series ‘The Tomorrow People’, which went on air in the year 2013.
Awards & Achievements
Aaron shared the special award for ‘Best Ensemble’, for the movie ‘21’, along with other members of the cast such as Kevin Spacey, Laurence Fishburne, Liza Lapira, Kate Botsworth, Jacob Pitt, Josh Gad and Jim Sturgess, in the year 2008.
Personal Life & Legacy
Aaron tied the knot with his girlfriend Farah Homidi, a make-up artiste, on 6 September 2014. The ceremony was held in the presence of close friends, family and the crew of the television show ‘The Tomorrow People’.
Trivia
Aaron attended an acting workshop during his days as a student, at the University of Pennsylvania. It’s claimed that Aaron was totally unambiguous about his decision to be an actor after encountering few challenges he faced during this workshop.
