Vanessa Ray’s acting career began with roles in musicals, such as ‘Footloose’ and ‘Finding Nemo: The Musical’. In 2003, she made her cinematic debut with a role in ‘The Sparky Chronicles: The Map.’ In 2008, she played the role of Katrina in the film ‘Finding Chance.’ The following year, she began playing the recurring role of Teri Ciccone in the popular soap opera ‘As the World Turns’.
In 2010, she appeared in some episodes of ‘Damages,’ a legal thriller series. It revolved around Patty Hewes, a brilliant and ruthless lawyer, and her protégé, Ellen Parsons. The series was met with mostly positive reviews. The same year, she was also seen in the romantic comedy film ‘Nice Guy Education’.
In 2011-12, she played the recurring role of Jenny Griffith in the legal drama series ‘Suits’. Set in a fictional law firm in New York City, the show was about a talented college dropout, Mike Ross, who works for Harvey Specter, a renowned lawyer. The show received critical acclaim as well as several awards and nominations.
In 2012, she played the lead role in the drama film, ‘Not Waving But Drowning’. She portrayed a small town girl, Adele, who moves to New York City. Later on, she feels sad about being separated from her best friends, while forging new relationships. Other actors in the film included Lynn Cohen, Scott Bryce and Adam Driver. The same year, she also appeared in the movies ‘Frances Ha’ and ‘The Last Day of August’.
From 2012 to 2017, she had a recurring role in the teen mystery series ‘Pretty Little Liars’. It revolved around four girls whose group falls apart after the mysterious disappearance of their leader. Though it initially received mixed reviews, the show was a huge success and won numerous awards. Ray won a ‘Teen Choice Award’ for her performance.
In 2013, she started portraying Officer Eddie Janko in the TV series ‘Blue Bloods’. The show starred Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou and Tom Selleck. In 2013, she was seen in the comedy film ‘Mutual Friends’. The same year, she was also seen in another film ‘Wisdom Teeth.’
In 2014, she had a supporting role in the psychological horror film ‘Devil’s Due’. Despite getting negative reviews, the film was a financial success, earning more than five times its $7 million budget.
