Tarek El Moussa was born and brought up in the sunny state of California, USA. From a very early age he displayed his business ambitions. After finishing high school, Tarek started working as a real estate agent and soon proved his mettle as a successful salesman. He decided to start his own business and applied for the license to become a real estate agent himself. He received his license at the age of 21 and there has been no looking back since then.

Very soon he started dominating the real estate scene in various California counties. He met his future wife Christina while working as a real estate agent. Things were running smoothly till 2008 when the American real estate market saw a huge crash. Tarek and Christina became financially distressed and had to move to a cheaper home than they were occupying. In order to cope with the cash crunch, Tarek began exploring a new idea. He started acquiring distressed homes at nominal prices, which then he would renovate and sell in the market. This avenue returned a higher profit and the couple’s financial situation started improving.The couple gained their first profit after buying a house for 115,000 USD in Santa Ana and selling the renovated house for a profit of 34,000 USD.

In 2011, in a bid to pitch a new reality show to television network HGTV, Tarek and Cristina made a tape of them buying distressed homes, renovating them and selling them for a profit. The TV network people were impressed with the tape and thought that the idea had merit. They approached the couple with the proposal of hosting a weekly show demonstrating their work and Tarek accepted the offer. He and Christina then signed a contract with HGTV in 2012 and this is show ‘Flip or Flop’ came into being.

The show demonstrated the couple buying a distressed property and subsequently flipping them, that is renovating and selling for a much higher profit. The first episode of ‘Flip and Flop’ aired on April 16, 2013. The show became a huge success and ran for five consecutive seasons. Tarek and Christina became a household name and glimpses of their picture-perfect family life with two children earned them a soft spot in the hearts of their audiences. Meanwhile Tarek has also started to host another show in the HGTV network.

Tarek has also established a real estate agency jointly with wife Christina, called the El Moussa Group which primarily concentrates its focus in the Orange County, California, that recorded one of the highest foreclosure rates in the USA. They have expanded their ventures into neighboring states of Arizona and Nevada since.

In the ‘Flip or Flop’, the couple, Tarek and Christina, appeared to have the most perfect life, but all was not hunky dory under the hood. They were reported to have regular fights and Tarek even suspected his wife to be cheating on him with contractor and friend, Gary Anderson. He even hired a private detective to gather evidence of his wife’s infidelity. Tarek’s deteriorating health also took a toll on the marriage. Tarek and Christina were granted divorce in 2016 and the couple is determined to stay friends for the sake of their two children. Tarek still co-hosts ‘Flip or Flop’ with Christina.
