Swipey was an American rapper, best known for producing viral hits, such as ‘Dirty’ and ‘Best Friend.’ He was shot dead at a very young age, right after he had released his album, ‘Sorry Not Sorry.’ Swipey was a prominent recording artist for an independent label ‘Men of Principles.’ Apart from collaborating with artists like Lil Durk and Shy Glizzy, Swipey was also associated with a group of rappers named ‘Squad Boyz.’ He was also popular on social media as he had thousands of followers online. While his Instagram account has over 55,000 followers, Swipey’s Twitter page had amassed more than 11,000 followers, before he was gunned down.

Swipey was born Douglas Brooks on November 24, 1997. He was raised by his mother, Freda, and had a difficult childhood as his parents separated when he was still very young.
Swipey was a very intelligent and bright student. He spent his childhood in Maryland. He passed high school with flying colors and earned a scholarship to ‘Morgan State University.’
Music was pretty much a part of his growing up days as his uncle was a passionate rapper. Swipey’s step father too used to rap, hence Swipey was exposed to rap very early in his life.

Career
Swipey started his career soon after graduating from high school. He became a part of a musical group called ‘Squad Boyz’ and then signed a contract with an independent label, ‘Men of Principles.’
Kevin Baldwin, the chief executive of ‘Men of Principles’ became his manager and Swipey started off his musical career on a positive note. He gained prominence as a D.C rapper when his singles ‘Dirty’ and ‘Best Friend’ went viral on the internet.
Swipey then became an internet sensation as his songs started gathering thousands of views on major social media platforms like YouTube. Swipey’s fame led him to perform alongside famous musicians like Wale and Fat Joe.
He then went on tours with rappers like Lil Durk and Shy Glizzy. He also featured producer Jazze Pha in one of his songs, ‘Money MoneyMoney.’ On July 16, 2016, he released his album ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ under the label ‘Men of Principles.’
Swipey used to post photos and videos on his Instagram account, and was also famous on Twitter.
Personal Life & Death
Swipey was a free-spirited person, who had a lot of friends. He used to party regularly and was also a self-proclaimed marijuana user. On his Instagram account, he had posted many pictures and videos, smoking up along with his friends.
According to his manager Kevin Baldwin, Swipey had a volatile relationship with an unknown girl. In fact, he had a heated argument with the girl in question minutes before his death. However, he was not in a relationship with the girl at the time of his death.
On August 21, 2016, Swipey was shot dead at a house party in Suitland, Maryland. According to the police investigation, he was shot twice on his head from a close range. When his manager confirmed the news of his death on social media, there was an outpouring of grief on social media.
Though the killing had happened right after an argument with a girl, police later confirmed that the murder had nothing to do with Swipey’s ex-girlfriend. They also said that Swipey was killed by amateur robbers Diante Brewer and Deshawn Watkins, who were later arrested by the cops.
A group of robbers had planned to storm the party, which was hosted by one of Swipey’s relatives. When a group of four men entered the parking lot in a car, they were stopped by Swipey, who was at the parking lot with a friend.
After a confrontation, Swipey was shot twice on his head around 1 a.m. In 2017, police confirmed the arrest of Diante Brewer and Deshawn Watkins in connection with Swipey’s murder. They also said that the investigation would continue as they were looking for additional witnesses to help them nab other suspects.
