Sofia Vladimirovna Vassilieva is a young American actress who is best known for her work as a teenage cancer patient in the 2009 movie ‘My Sister's Keeper’. Her other remarkable work include ‘Eloise at the Plaza’, ‘Eloise at Christmastime’ and ‘Medium’. For her work in ‘My Sister's Keeper’ and ‘Medium’, she bagged the ‘Young Artist Awards’. Sofia started out as a child actor and hence along with acting, she also continued with her formal education. Furthermore, with her parents solidly supporting her in everything, she pursued acting courses and took interest in variety of other activities like ballet, horse riding and yoga. She has also travelled a lot and is fluent in a number of languages. Other than acting, she has also lent her voice for video games.

Career
Sofia Vassilieva started out really young. At the tender age of seven, her talent was recognised by IMTA (International Modelling and Talent Association) and she was presented with Child Actress and first runner-up Child Model of The Year 2000. Within a year, she started getting acting assignments. She first worked in an episode of a CBS television series, ‘The Agency’ and followed it up by working in a television film, ‘The Brady Bunch in the White House’ and another project, ‘Inhabited’.
The next few years saw Sofia’s career soar high with projects like, ‘Eloise at the Plaza’ and ‘Eloise at Christmastime’, ‘Medium’ and ‘My Sister's Keeper’. In the television movies ‘Eloise at the Plaza’ and ‘Eloise at Christmastime’, (based on the first two books of ‘Eloise’ the series of children’s book authored by Kay Thompson in the 1950s), she played the titular role of Eloise. For her performance as a fun loving six year old girl, she earned the nomination for Best Leading Young Actress in a TV Movie, Miniseries or Special at the 2004 ‘Young Artist Awards’.
In ‘Medium’ a supernatural television series that ran for seven series from 2005 to 2011, she essayed the role of Patricia Arquette’s daughter, ‘Ariel DuBois’. Her portrayal of the character won her Best Supporting Actress in a TV Drama at the ‘Young Artist Award’ in 2006.
The movie, ‘My Sister's Keeper’ was another big role for her where she worked along with the likes of Cameron Diaz, Jason Patric, and Abigail Breslin. In the movie, which is an adaptation of Jodi Picoult's novel of the same name, she played the role of a teenage cancer patient, ‘Kate Fitzgerald’. To make her character look more authentic, she went to the extent of shaving her head and eyebrows. Her excellent depiction not only won her ‘Young Artist Award’ for Best Supporting Actress in a Feature Film in 2010, but also made her an honorary ambassador for ‘Stand Up to Cancer’, a charitable programme of Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF).
In the successive years, from 2015 onwards, Sofia Vassilieva appeared in a single or a couple of episodes of a number of television series like ‘Stalker’, ‘Lucifer’, ‘Notorious’, ‘Training Day’, ‘Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders’, ‘Supergirl’, ‘Timeless’, ‘S.W.A.T.’ and ‘Black Lightning’. She also played the lead role in Bad Stepmother and Russian American in 2018.
In 2019, she appeared in Hulu limited series, ‘Looking for Alaska’. In 2020 and 2021, she has ‘Brighton Beach’, ‘The Little Things’ and ‘Thirteen Minutes’ coming up.
Other than working for films and television, Sofia has also lent her voice for characters in a couple of video games. These include ‘Mafia III’ (2016) and ‘Call of Duty: WWII’ (2017).

Family & Personal Life
Sofia Vassilieva was born on October 22, 1992 in Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. Her parents are originally from Russia and resided in Novosibirsk before they moved and settled down in the USA. Her father, Vladimir Vassilieva, is a physicist while her mother, Larissa Vassilieva is a biologist.
Like her parents, Sofia is very strong academically. She attended Concord High School in Santa Monica, CA and later studied at Columbia University in New York City. She completed her Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in May 2014 and also went ahead to complete Linguistics major with honours and a special concentration in Business Management.
To hone her acting skill, she became a student of Barbizon Modelling and Acting School. Additionally, in the summer of 2013, she enrolled and completed the Acting Shakespeare course from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.
Sofia also has a strong aptitude for languages. Very early in her life, she learnt French, English and Russian. Later, she went on to educate herself in American Sign Language and Spanish. Currently, she is fluent in around seven to eight languages. Apart from studying and acting, Sofia took keen interest in ballet, gymnastics, playing piano and riding horses from very early age. She also became an admirer of yoga and continues to take her lessons in the discipline.
Sofia is also a well-travelled person. Other than visiting various places in the US, she has also travelled to Germany, Spain, Japan, England, Canada, France, Austria and Italy.
