Family & Personal Life
Shy Glizzy was born on December 12, 1992, in Washington, D.C. He was raised in Fort Dupont in Southeast Washington, D.C. His father was murdered even before King’s first birthday and he was brought up by his mother and grandmother. He has a younger brother who is also a rapper and performs under the professional name 3 Glizzy.
He was 14 years old when he was apprehended by the police for petty larceny. Two years later, he was sentenced to 14 months in juvenile detention for robbery. While he was there, he received his GED. A devout Muslim since childhood, he started reading the Quran when he was a teenager. Later, he also started reading newspapers and stacks of biographies. He was trying to write a book when he came up with the lyrics of his first track. Shy Glizzy did not grow up as a fan of rap music, as he preferred go-go music over it. This has apparently helped him. He cites it as a reason for his unique sound.
In 2015, he and his then-girlfriend were arrested in Silver Spring, Maryland for disorderly conduct.
