Sendhil Ramamurthy is an American actor, of Indian origin, who is known for his work in the sci-fi drama series ‘Heroes’ and in the drama series ‘Covert Affairs’. Ramamurthy was born in Chicago to an Indian family of physicians. He finished his higher education from Tufts University. He also learnt performing arts at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, before he began his acting career. He has appeared in numerous films, television series and plays. He acted in plays such as ‘A Servant of Two Masters’, and ‘Indian Ink’. His works on the big screen include ‘Blind Dating’ an American romantic comedy, and the Indian comedy-drama film ‘Shor in the City’.

Career
Sendhil Ramamurthy`s first work on-screen was in the two-part biblical miniseries `In the Beginning` which aired on NBC in 2000. Ramamurthy played the role of Adam, who is considered the first human to be created by the divine, according to the Judeo-Christian scriptures. In 2002, he appeared in the TV series `Guiding Light`, playing a minor role. The same year, he also played the role of Corporal Alex Leonard in the first season of `Ultimate Force`, a British action drama series. In 2005, he had a guest role in the crime dramas series `NUMB3RS`.
In 2006, he played a supporting character named Arvind in the romantic comedy film `Blind Dating`, which was his first role on the big screen. Directed by James Keach, the film received generally mixed reviews. Between 2006 and 2010, he also played the role of Mohinder Suresh in the sci-fi series `Heroes`, which gained him a lot of fame and appreciation. The series was about the lives of ordinary people who learnt about their superhuman abilities and how they can use it to prevent catastrophic futures. It aired for four seasons between 2006 and 2010, and Ramamurthy appeared in all of them.
In 2009, he was seen in the comedy film `The Slammin` Salmon` in a supporting role. The film revolved around a restaurant owner holding a contest to see which one of his employees can earn the most money in a single night. The film received mixed to negative reviews mostly. The same year, he was also seen in the detective comedy-drama series `Psych`. In 2010, he appeared in the British comedy film `It`s a Wonderful Afterlife`. It revolved around an Indian mother who was obsessed with getting her daughter married off, which eventually leads her into the realm of serial murder. From 2010 to 2012, he also played Jai Wilcox, one of the main characters in the TV series `Covert Affairs`. Reviews towards the show were generally positive.
In 2011, he appeared in his first Indian film ‘Shor in the City’, a crime drama, which was directed by Raj & DK. He played an NRI named Abhay, who returns to India to start his own business. The film was a commercial success, (earning over 4 crores on a budget of 3 crores cannot find). The film was praised by critics.
Between 2012 and 2013, he also had a recurring role of Raj Andari in the popular police procedural drama series `CSI: Miami’. The series was aired for ten seasons between 2002 and 2012. He was also seen in the popular sitcom `The Office`. In 2013, he had a supporting role in the American drama film `The Lifeguard’. The film received mostly unfavorable reviews from critics. He next appeared in the sci-fi series ‘Beauty and the Beast’ in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, he appeared in ‘Heroes Reborn’, where he reprised his role of Mohinder Suresh. The show was a continuation of the popular sci-fi series ‘Heroes’.
Over the years, he has continued to play important roles in several other TV shows such as ‘Reverie’, ‘The Flash’, and ‘Cleopatra in Space’. In 2016, he also appeared in the film ‘Lego Jurassic World: The Indominus Escape’.

Sendhil Ramamurthy was born on 17 May 1974 in the US. His parents were physicians, who had emigrated from India. His father had Kannada ancestry, while his mother was of Tamil descent. He has one sister who also became a physician. He studied at Keystone School, from where he graduated in 1991. Later, he attended Tufts University, to pursue a career in medicine like his parents. But he soon developed an interest in acting and graduated with a BA in history instead, after which he studied at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
Sendhil Ramamurthy is married to Olga Sosnovska, with whom he has two children.
