Seamus Dever is an American actor best recognized for his portrayal of Detective Kevin Ryan on ABC’s ‘Castle’. He has also featured in many films, short films, and video games. He was born in Flint, Michigan and raised in Bullhead City, Arizona. His acting career began when he was just six. Following his graduation from Mohave High School, he attended Northern Arizona University from where he earned his undergraduate degree. His inclination towards acting propelled him to earn MFAs in acting from Moscow Art Theatre and Carnegie-Mellon University. Dever’s first role as a grown-up came in 1999, in an episode of ‘Pensacola: Wings of Gold’. Since then, he has been active on both the small and big screens. A lifetime member of the Actors Studio, the talented actor married his ‘Castle’ co-star and on-screen wife, Juliana, in 2006. Dever, who is a keen supporter of Best Friends Animal Society, is a vegetarian.
Seamus Dever made his debut as a grown-up actor in 1999 when he appeared in an episode of ‘Pensacola: Wings of Gold’. This was followed by his guest appearances in the dramas ‘She's No Angel’ and ‘Undressed’. In 2002, he played Rick Michell in the direct-to-video action film ‘Outside the Law’. That year, the actor also lent his voice to multiple characters in the video game ‘Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix’.
In 2005, Dever played Billy in the TV movie ‘Mystery Woman: Snapshot’. Starring Kellie Martin, the movie focuses on a bookstore owner who gets involved in solving real-life mysteries. A year later, he starred in the period mystery film ‘Hollywoodland’. Directed by Allen Coulter, the film is a fictionalized representation of the circumstances surrounding the mysterious death of actor George Reeves.
Dever’s television career gained momentum in 2008 when he played the role of Dr. Ian Devlin in the medical drama ‘General Hospital’. The same year saw him performing in the series ‘Army Wives’ as well. His career escalated further the following year with his role of Detective Kevin Ryan in the crime-comedy drama series ‘Castle’. The main cast of the drama also featured the actor’s wife, Juliana, who played his on-screen wife.
In 2009, Dever featured as Marc in Sean Doyle's independent comedy flick ‘Ready or Not’. The film also starred Christian Oliver, Jonathan Murphy, and Evan Helmuth as college friends who become stranded in a foreign country during a bachelor party. In the ensuing years, the actor had guest appearances in many television shows, including 'Dark Blue', 'Chelsea Lately', and 'The Chase'.
His roles in 2018 included guest roles in the drama series ‘Legion’ and ‘Take Two’; a recurring role in the web TV series ‘Titans’; and a voice role in the video game ‘Far Cry 5’.
