Childhood & Early Life
Sarah was born Sarah Jude Sutherland on February 18, 1988, in Los Angeles, California, to British-Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland and his first wife, Camelia Kath. She joined the 'Crossroads Drama Conservatory,' in Los Angeles, during her teens. At the conservatory, she received an award for excellence in drama.
Sarah then enrolled at 'Tisch School of the Arts' at 'New York University' to study theater. She was trained in voice and speech modulation that came in handy later in her career. Sarah was exposed to an array of acting methods, including Meisner and Grotowski, while at 'Tisch.' She also participated in a number of stage productions, including 'Trojan Women' in which she performed as ‘Cassandra.’
While in her NYU final semester, Sarah wrote and starred in a one-woman play, 'The Skin of a Grape.' Sarah graduated with honors and also received an award for her achievements.
Sarah was still studying at 'Tisch School of the Arts' when she got an opportunity to meet Allison Jones, the casting director of 'Veep.' Apart from studying a traditional form of Clown Theater at school, Sarah had no previous experience of doing comedy. Hence she was not much hopeful of landing a role in 'Veep.' However, she was called and encouraged for an audition, and to her surprise, she landed a central character in 'Veep,' which later became one of the most appreciated performances of her career.
Sarah did a test-read for 'Veep' alongside the protagonist, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, in 2011.
Career
Sarah made her acting debut with the 'HBO' political satire comedy 'Veep.' She was cast as Catherine Meyer, the reserved, put-upon daughter of the fictional US Vice President Selina (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Sarah gets romantically involved with Selina’s Secret Service agent, Marjorie, and marries her. The character was introduced in the debut season with a guest appearance and was made a recurring one in the subsequent seasons till the sixth season. She shared a 'Screen Actors Guild Award' with the cast for the series.
In between filming for 'Veep,' she made her film debut with the 2013 indie drama film 'Beneath the Harvest Sky' (previously known as 'Blue Potato') in which she starred as ‘Emma.’ That year, she appeared as ‘Jen Dunham’ in the horror flick 'Innocence.' followed by ‘Mary’ (in the episode Oh Shenandoah) of the 'HBO' political drama 'The Newsroom,' in 2014.
In the 2015 drama film 'Chronic,' Sarah played Nadia Wilson, the estranged daughter of a homecare nurse who often indulges in relationships with his patients. She then played Dayna in an episode of the 'Adult Swim' horror-comedy 'Tim & Eric's Bedtime Stories' (also known as 'Bedtime Stories').
IN 2018, Sarah appeared as ‘Mary’ in the 2018 drama film 'What They Had.'

Sarah is the granddaughter of actor Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, and great-granddaughter of Canadian politician Tommy Douglas. Sarah’s mother was married to Tommy Douglas before getting married to Sarah’s father.
Sarah was named after the legendary actress Sarah Jessica Parker. Her middle name, ‘Jude,’ honors her father's longtime friend and business partner, Jude Cole.
Sarah was in a relationship with actor Sam Michael Fox from 2006 to 2009.
