Career

Rudy Pankow made his acting debut with the role of Aaron in the 2017 short film Sunny Family Cult.

He then appeared in a number of other short films, such as Nobody Knows (as Abe Wooldridge, 2017), 11:47 (as Jesse, 2017), Not Me (as Ashton, 2018), Last Summer (as Dylan, 2018), and Deviant (as Marcel, 2018).

In 2018, he appeared in the video for the Muse song Thought Contagion. He later revealed how he had earned the part. A friend of his had worked with the director of the Muse music video earlier. The director needed a boy who looked like Steve from the series Stranger Things. Rudy met the director, through his friend, and showed off a few dance steps. He soon got the role.

He played a small role in the fifth episode of the first season of Ryan Murphy’s 2019 series The Politician. He was then seen in two episodes of the 2019 series Solve: as Freddy in the episode Death in Detention and as Robert in the episode Death on the Bleachers.

However, the role that made Rudy Pankow a household name was that of JJ in the 2020 Netflix teen adventure series Outer Banks. The series also starred Madelyn Cline and Madison Bailey. Rudy and Madison Bailey are good friends and are often seen on each other’s social-media posts. He relates to the character JJ, as JJ does not care about what anybody says about him. He hopes a second season of the series will be filmed as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic ends.

He also appeared as Brocklehurst in the 2020 series Acting for a Cause. He was also seen in the 2020 series Popternative.

He will be seen as Joey Kite in the upcoming film Space Waves. It will be his first lead role in a feature-length film. The film will narrate the tale of two friends and their fame after their podcast becomes viral. The movie is still in its post-production stage.

During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Rudy has been attending interviews and photo shoots over the phone. He has also been working on his own project, while spending a lot of time reading and playing the piano.

Although Rudy Pankow grew up in Ketchikan, a small town in Alaska, he finds it quite similar to the town in South Carolina where Outer Banks was shot. Both the places are tourist towns, where fishing is a prime livelihood. However, the temperature sets the main difference between the two places.

During the shoots, Rudy loved being on boats and surprising people with his knowledge of driving boats and tying them up. The biggest challenge during the shoots was how they had to skip scenes to film other scenes depending on the weather and water levels.

He finds it funny when he thinks that a fan of the show might not even recognize him when he goes out to shop wearing a mask.

He wishes to be part of a period piece set in the 1950s or the medieval period, such as Knights Tale or Oliver Twist. Rudy is also a huge fan of Star Wars.
