Robert Ben Garant is a popular screenwriter, producer, actor, director and comedian from USA. He is known for writing the screenplays of famous movies such as the ‘Night at the Museum’ trilogy. He often collaborates with his longtime friend and associate Thomas Lennon with whom he has worked on multiple shows, including the comedy shows ‘The State’ and ‘Reno 911’. While both Garant and Lennon have written several successful screenplays together, Garant has also acted in some of these shows, especially in ‘Reno 911’ in which his role became quite popular with the audience. Together, their films have earned over a billion dollars in box office revenues, making them one of the most popular scriptwriting teams Hollywood has ever seen. Garant and Lennon have also released a book on their successful journey in Hollywood, titled ‘Writing Movies for Fun and Profit: How We Made a Billion Dollars at The Box Office and You Can Too’. On the personal front, Garant is married with two children.

Robert Ben Garant was born in Cookeville, Tennessee, on September 14, 1970. He grew up in Farragut and spent his childhood there before he moved to New York for several years.
He graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.

Robert Ben Garant started his career as a cast member and also the writer for the sketch comedy series ‘The State’ that ran from 1993 to 1995 on MTV. He became an instant hit after he made a significant impression on the audience through his bizarre and outlandish act in the show.
Post his success in the show ‘The State’, he took a major break from the show business only to return to write and act in the show ‘Reno 911’ in 2003.
In 2004, he wrote the script for the movie ‘Taxi’, an action-comedy movie that was based on a French film titled the same. The film was not welcomed well by the critics and was one of the biggest failures in the career of Garant.
The year 2005 was one that brought both glory and disappointment for Garant. He wrote the script for both ‘The Pacifier’, a critically panned movie, and ‘Herbie: Fully Loaded’, a commercial blockbuster movie.
The year 2006 was a turning point in Garant’s career. He, along with Lennon, wrote the screenplay for the first film in the film franchise ‘Night at the museum’. This movie, starring Ben Stiller, was a fantasy comedy whose story was liked by audiences of all age groups.
Garant and Lennon went on to write the screenplays for the other movies in the ‘Night at the museum’ franchise, titled ‘Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian’ and ‘Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb,’ which were released in 2009 and 2014, respectively.
In 2010, Garant and Lennon created a TV pilot called ‘USS Alabama’ which had a plot that was set thousands of years in the future.
The movie ‘Bay Watch’ was his last film in 2017. It turned out to be a failure owing to its flimsy plot that lacked depth.

The TV show ‘The State’ was Robert Ben Garant’s first show to make him a household name. This was a sketch comedy series that was broadcast on MTV between December 17, 1993, and July 1, 1995. In this show, 11 members, including Garant, created, acted and directed sketches to entertain the audience. It was especially popular among the teenage audience.
The show ‘Reno 911’ was another popular show that had Garant as a screenwriter and also an actor who played an important character. It was a spoof show that ran on Comedy Central. He played the role of a cop in it. The show was an instant sensation and his character as the mustachioed Deputy Travis Junior became was so memorable that it became synonymous with the actor.
The ‘Night at the Museum’ film franchise has been the largest hit in the career of Garant so far. He wrote the script for the film series along with his partner Lennon. The first movie in the series is about a newly recruited security guard in a museum who discovers an ancient Egyptian artifact that leads all the exhibits in the museum to come to life. The innovative plot was well received by both the critics and audiences alike.
His project ‘Herbie: Fully Loaded’ was a sports comedy film that starred Lindsay Lohan as the lead character. The film grossed more than $144 million at the box office and Garant was credited for much of its success.

Robert Ben Garant is currently married to actress Cathy Shim. They were married on August 1, 2011, and have two children from this marriage. He was previously married to Jennifer Garant until their divorce in 2007.
