Childhood & Early Life
Peter Phillips was born Peter Mark Andrew Phillips, on November 15, 1977, in Paddington, London. His father, Mark Phillips, was a horseman, who won a gold medal at the ‘Olympic Games.’ His mother, Anne, Princess Royal, is the daughter of Queen Elizabeth II, and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
At the time of his birth, Phillips was the fifth in the line of succession to the British throne. He is the eldest grandchild of the Queen. There was a 41-gun salute from the ‘Tower of London,’ at the time of his birth. He was baptized at the ‘Buckingham Palace,’ by the Archbishop of Canterbury Donald Coggan.
Before Phillips’ birth, his parents refused an offer by the Queen, for the child to be born in peerage. Thus, he became the first child in the family, in more than 500 years, to be born without any courtesy titles. Phillips has a younger sister, Zara Tindall. He also has two half-sisters, Felicity Tonkin, and Stephanie Phillips.
Peter Phillips was raised at his family home in Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire. He attended the ‘Port Regis Prep School’ for his early studies. Later, he joined the ‘Gordonstoun School,’ where other members of the royal family studied. He was the head boy at the school, and was also actively involved in sports. He played rugby, and water sports. Following his father’s footsteps, Phillips, too, became an excellent horde rider. He graduated in sports science from the ‘University of Exeter,’ and was also part of the rugby team at the university.

Career
Peter Phillips started working, even before his graduation. During his sabbatical year between high school and university, Phillips moved to Sydney, Australia, to work for the ‘Sports Entertainment Limited.’ During this period, he also worked for the ‘Formula One’ racing team, owned by Jackie Stewart.
In 2000, Phillips graduated from the ‘University of Exeter,’ and joined ‘Jaguar,’ as their corporate hospitality manager. His interest in racing brought him once again to the world of racing. Phillips worked as sponsorship accounts manager for the racing team owned by ‘Williams Grand Prix Engineering Limited.’
In September 2005, Peter Phillips joined the ‘Royal Bank of Scotland,’ as a manager. He worked with the bank for a long period of time. During his tenure with the ‘RBS,’ he worked in Hong Kong as well. In 2012, Phillips quit the ‘RBS’ and joined Sports Entertainment Limited, U.K., as managing director.
In August 2012, Phillips was invited as the ‘Guest of Honor’ at the rugby league ‘Challenge Cup’ final match between the ‘Warrington Wolves,’ and the ‘Leeds Rhinos.’ In 2016, he was instrumental in organizing the ‘Patron’s Lunch,’ during the 90th birthday celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II.
Family & Personal Life
Peter Phillips keeps his personal life closely guarded. He was in a relation with Elizabeth Lorio. The couple lived together for some time, but eventually parted ways. Later, Phillips was romantically involved with a flight attendant Tara Swain, for a brief period.
He is married to Autumn Kelly. In 2003, he met Autumn during the ‘Canadian Grand Prix,’ in Montreal. The couple fell in love, and decided to get married. Their marriage was solemnized at the ‘St. George’s Chapel,’ at ‘Windsor Castle,’ on May 17, 2008. Kelly was a Roman Catholic by birth. Before marriage, she converted to the Church of England. This ensured that Peter Phillips did not lose his place in the line of succession to the throne.
Phillips and Kelly have two daughters. Their first child, Savannah Anne Kathleen, was born in December 2010. She is fifteenth in the line of succession to the throne. Their second daughter, Isla Elizabeth, was born in March, 2012.
Phillips is known for his simple and unassuming lifestyle. He never used his royal lineage as a means for moving up in his career. Several of his colleagues did not know about his connections with the royal family. He does not carry any honorary title, and has no personal security officers.
Trivia
Peter Phillips has often been called as the ‘Queen’s favorite grandson.’ In 2016, he spoke about his grandmother, in an interview to the ‘Telegraph.’ Phillips said, “I have always been very close to my grandmother, and we speak often. She has been an inspirational person throughout my life.” Phillips is close to his grandfather too. His grandfather, Prince Philips, has described him as a ‘winner.’
Initially, Phillips did not disclose his royal status to Autumn. She found out the fact accidentally, while watching a television program. When asked about this, Phillips replied, “There was no cause to mention it, and no reason at all to tell her.”
Though Princess Anne and Mark Phillips divorced in 1992, Peter Phillips maintains close ties with his father. He also has good relations with his mother’s second husband, Tim Laurence.
