Childhood & Early Life

Paulo Avelino was born on 13th May 1988, as Michael Paulo Lingbanan Avelino, in Baguio City in the Philippines. His father is Roberto Puigcerver Avelino and his mother is Jennilyn Lingbanan. He has three siblings named Honey, Gabriel, and Angela.

He received his primary education from Baguio City SPED Elementary School before pursuing his secondary education from Baguio Patriotic High School. He then enrolled at Saint Louis University, in Baguio City, to study entrepreneurial management. However, he left during the first year.

Career

Paulo Avelino began his career in 2006 with the reality show ‘Starstruck 4’. He reached the “top 8” after which he was eliminated. He first appeared in the TV show ‘Magic Kamison: Black Jewel in the Palace’ in a guest role.

He later acted in minor as well as supporting roles in TV shows, such as Sine: Novela, Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita, and Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan.

His first significant role was in the TV series ‘Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin?’ (Should You Be Loved?), which was a TV drama based on a 1984 film of the same name. It aired from March to June 2009. The same year, he was also seen in the romance drama series ‘All My Life’ that aired from June to September 2009.

In 2010, he was seen in the TV series ‘Panday Kids’ and ‘Ilumina’. His popularity increased in 2011 after he played the lead role in the fantasy romantic drama series ‘Alakdana’ (Scorpion Lady). It aired from January to May 2011. The same year, he was also seen in other shows such as ‘100 Days to Heaven’ and ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya: Liham’.

His next significant works on TV included ‘Honesto’ in 2013 and ‘Bridges of Love’ in 2015. Meanwhile, he also continued working on the big screen, appearing in films like ‘Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’ (2011), ‘The Bride and the Lover’ (2013) and ‘Status: It’s Complicated’ (2013).

His career saw a further boost after he appeared in the 2015 historical biopic film ‘Heneral Luna’. Directed by Jerrold Tarog, the film was a huge success commercially. Its reviews were also mostly positive, and the film won several awards as well. Avelino played the supporting role of a character named Gen. Greogorio del Pilar.

In the ensuing years, he acted in the films ‘The Unmarried Wife’ (2016), ‘Kasal’ (2018) and ‘Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral’ (Goyo: The Boy General)’ (2018). In the same period, he appeared in the TV shows ‘The Promise of Forever’ (2017), ‘Asintado’ (2018) and ‘The General’s Daughter’ (2019).

Major Works

One of Paulo Avelino’s early works include the 2009 horror film ‘Patient X’. It was directed by Yam Laranas. The story revolves around a group of mysterious murderers who are captured after twenty years. The brother of one of their victims tries to investigate further and discovers some gory facts.

The 2015 historical biopic film ‘Heneral Luna’ is another one of his major works. The film, directed by Jerrold Tarog, was a huge success commercially. Produced on a budget of 80 million pesos, the film had a worldwide collection of 256 million pesos. It won several Luna Awards and Asian Film Festival Awards.

Avelino’s important works on television includes the romantic soap opera ‘Bridges of Love’, where he had a lead role. The story was about two brothers who get separated after an accident. One is adopted by a wealthy architect, while the other returns to his poor parents. Though they grow up and eventually meet, they don’t recognize each other. The series aired from March to August 2015.
