Nina Arianda is an American Tony award-winning film, television and theatre actress, best known for starring in the Amazon Studios series titled ‘Goliath’. She was born in Manhattan and was raised in New Jersey and Heidelberg, Germany. She made her stage debut at the age of 3 when she sang a Ukrainian poem in school and experienced a Broadway show for the first time when she was six years old. Since that age, she became fascinated with forging a career in acting and began taking acting classes around the age of 9. She also auditioned around and participated in theatrical plays in school. Following her high school graduation, she attended New York’s famous Tisch School of Arts and began auditioning for roles in films and television series’. She made her film debut with 2011’s film ‘Win Win’, playing a supporting role as Shelly and followed it with more roles in films such as ‘Tower Heist’, ‘Rob the Mob’ and ‘Never Here’. After making her TV debut in 2011 with a small role in the series ‘The Good Wife’, she went on appearing in series’ such as ‘Hannibal’ and ‘Goliath’. Also a stage actress, she won a Tony Award for her lead role in the play titled ‘Venus in Fur’.

Childhood & Early Life
Nina Arianda was born Nina Arianda Matijcio, on September 18, 1984, in Manhattan, New York City, to Lesia and Peter Matijcio. Her parents were of Ukrainian descent and lived in one of the most densely populated areas of the city. However, soon after Nina was born, her parents moved to Clifton, New Jersey.
She attended a Ukrainian school in NJ and had her first tryst with performance arts while she was there. She performed a patriotic Ukrainian poem on-stage at the school hall. Her parents were also fans of Broadway shows, which further proved to be a big reason for Nina’s early interest towards show-business.
When she was six years old, her parents took her to watch the Broadway production of ‘Les Miserables’, which deeply impacted Nina. She was also given a backstage tour and she became fascinated with the world she witnessed.
By the time she was 9 years old, she had made up her mind about being an actor. Her parents drove her to auditions in the nearby places. However, she was an untrained actor and she did not get acting parts, but earned a few voice-over roles.
She began taking acting classes and enrolled into New York’s Professional Performing High School. But she was able to attend that only for one semester as she had to move to Germany for her father’s work. Following her high school graduation, she applied for London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. She was rejected by both.
She moved to the United States and got enrolled into New York’s Tisch School of Arts. Following her graduation, she began auditioning.

Career
She graduated in 2009 and began auditioning for roles, starting with theatrical productions. With almost zero professional experience, she auditioned for a role in the Off-Broadway play titled ‘Venus in Fur’. She auditioned for the lead role as Vanda in the play and won the role after many stages of auditioning.
The play debuted in 2010 and became an immediate commercial and critical hit, with Nina drawing praises from everybody who witnessed the play. For her leading performance, she won many theatrical awards such as a Tony Award and a Theatre World Award. She earned a big critical acclaim for her debut role itself, which set her up perfectly for her bright future into the entertainment industry.
In 2011, she further appeared in the Broadway revival of the classic play titled ‘Born Yesterday’. She once again played a lead role as Billie Dawn and earned huge appreciation for her portrayal.
In the same year, she made her film debut, playing a supporting role as Shelly in the sports comedy drama film titled ‘Win Win’. The film was small in terms of production value, but made more than double its budget and was deemed a commercial success. It also turned out to be a critical success as well.
In the same year, she appeared playing yet another supporting role in the drama film titled ‘Higher Ground’. The film was a huge critical success and received its world premiere at the highly prestigious Sundance Film Festival, where it received a nomination for the Grand Jury Prize.
She had a huge breakthrough later that year when she appeared playing one of the major roles in the Woody Allen directed fantasy comedy film titled ‘Midnight in Paris’. The film is known to be the most successful one among all recent Woody Allen films and registered huge success on the box office and critical scale.
She ended the year with a supporting role in the heist drama film titled ‘Tower Heist’. The film received average reviews and was a box office success.
Nina also set out to make her television debut in the same year when she appeared playing a small guest role in the series titled ‘The Good Wife’, and followed with more guest roles in series’ such as ’30 Rock’ and ‘Hostages’.
In 2013, she appeared playing a supporting role in the critically acclaimed comedy drama film titled ‘Lucky Them’ and followed it with more acclaimed films such as ‘The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby’ and ‘The Humbling’.
She earned the first leading role of her career in the 2014 romantic crime drama film titled ‘Rob the Mob’. The film received highly positive reviews but was a huge box office debacle.
In 2015, she appeared playing a supporting role as Molly Graham in the series titled ‘Hannibal’.
In 2016, she had her big television break when she appeared playing one of the main roles in the legal drama series titled ‘Goliath’. The series has received huge critical and commercial acclaim.
