Career
Melissa Heholt had a passion for event planning all through her life. However, being the eldest sister to her three siblings, she had always been around children and her natural instinct was of a nurturer and caretaker. Hence, she decided to become a teacher after finishing high school. Despite this, she chose to get a degree in business after she was told that people in teaching don’t make that much money. In the subsequent months, she changed her major a few times and eventually graduated with a bachelor’s degree in health administration.
She then held several jobs that she found “unfulfilling” and went back to school to get an M.S. degree in elementary education. Teaching came almost naturally to her and she enjoyed her short tenure as a teacher. However, in time, although she loved children, she came to resent the present state of the education system in the US. She even admitted in an interview that she was unhappy.
Heholt eventually realised that event planning is her true passion and it excites her like nothing else. In the past, her family, friends, and collegiate organizations apparently had hailed her as the “go to girl” for planning special events.
In 2014, she established Statice Events, which promises to provide an intimate event-planning experience in which the client is welcomed to actively participate throughout the planning. The business has become quite successful since then.
She is also the executive director of her husband’s charity initiative, Dreamville Foundation. Set up in October 2011, the Fayetteville, North Carolina-based organization helps the youths realize their true potential through positive experiences.
In her spare time, Heholt travels, cooks, and shops. She also loves to try out new cuisines. Recently, she has discovered her interest in florals and taken an apprenticeship with Makini Regal Designs.

Personal Life
Very little is known about Melissa Heholt’s childhood and early life. She is an American, oldest of four children, and has spent a considerable part of her life in New Jersey. She attended St. John’s University in Queens, New York, where she met her future husband, BET Hip-hop Award-winning rapper J. Cole. They had an almost decade-long relationship before getting married in 2015. According to reports, they have a daughter together.
Both Heholt and Cole are incredibly private about their personal life and for a long while, no one besides people who are close to them had any idea about their marriage. There were rumours back in 2014 that the couple had been engaged but there was no confirmation. They married secretly and no entertainment news outlet reported it.
However, on January 18, 2016, during an interview with director Ryan Coogler (‘Creed’ and ‘Black Panther’) for the #MLKNow event, it was revealed that Cole is married to Heholt. Coogler asked Cole how getting married “changed” him, immediately became aware of the blunder, and apologized by stating he had never conducted an interview before. Cole, in his usual calm and collected manner, replied "That was like one thing to not do. But it's all good... They know now."
