Kristin Bauer van Straten’s acting career took off in 1995, when she landed a regular role in the television series ‘The Crew.’ Prior to this, she had appeared as a guest on many television shows like “L.A. Law” (1994), “Columbo” (1994), and “Cybill” (1995). She played the role of ‘Maggie Reynolds’ in the TV show ‘Regency Airlines’. After this, she played various other recurring roles, including ‘Rebecca Colfax’ in ‘Dirty Sexy Money’, ‘Belinda Slypich’ in ‘Hidden Hills’, ‘Geneva Renault’ in ‘Total Security’ and ‘Candy Cooper’ in ‘That’s Life’.

Her best film role so far came in the movie ‘Dancing at the Blue Iguana,’ which was released in 2000. She played the role of a porn star in a Los Angeles strip club. As part of the role, she went on to perform a nude dance in the movie. The next year, she went on to star in an award-winning short film titled ‘Room 302’. In 2004, she starred in the movie ‘50 First Dates,’ which also had Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. She has also given voice for the animated series ‘Justice League’. She voiced superhero ‘Mera’.

Apart from these, she has made multiple guest appearances in various television shows such as ‘LA Law’, ‘Seinfeld’, ‘Dark Angel’, ‘Star Trek: Enterprise’, ‘Desperate Housewives’, ‘George Lopez’, ‘CSI’, ‘Two and a Half Men’ and ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’. In fact, in the ‘Seinfeld episode ‘The Bizarro Jerry’, she famously played Jerry’s girlfriend who has “man hands.”

Starting from 2008, she played the vampire ‘Pamela Swynford De Beaufort’ in the fantasy series ‘True Blood’. This was aired on HBO and went on to run successfully till 2014. In 2009, she was confirmed to have been promoted to a regular in the show from her earlier recurring status owing to her rising popularity amongst the show viewers.

In 2011, she was cast in ‘Once Upon a Time,’ which is another fantasy television series. She played the role of ‘Maleficent,’ an evil fairy. This role was based on the wicked fairy godmother of ‘Sleeping Beauty’, the Disney classic.

She was born on November 26, 1966, as Kristin Neubauer in Racine, Wisconsin, and is of German ancestry. She was very active physically during her childhood and played various sports, rode horses and even fired shotguns. This was mainly her father’s influence as he himself was an avid horseman and a gun collector. Her mother was a housewife and was into charity.

She attended the Prairie School in Racine and went on to study fine arts at Washington University in St. Louis. She also attended the Parsons The New School for Design in New York. However, she eventually decided to become an actress and as a result moved to Los Angeles, which is her home even today. Even though she began acting in 1994, she also continued with her passion for drawing and painting. Some of her works are commissioned portraits.

On August 1, 2009, she married Abri van Straten, who is a South African singer and song-writer. He was also the lead vocalist and guitarist of the South African rock band “The Lemmings”.
