At sixteen years old, Connolly got a part in the Sylvester Stallone-starrer boxing sports film ‘Rocky V’. In 1992, Connolly made his television debut in the sitcom ‘Great Scott!’ as ‘Larry O'Donnell’. Connolly appeared alongside Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara, and Jeremy Piven, playing one of the most popular characters on television during those years. He was also nominated along with the rest of the cast at the Screen Actors Guild Awards for the best ensemble cast, three times. He also acted in the 2009 rom-com ‘The Ugly Truth’ alongside Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl.
In 2014, Connolly featured as one of the main characters (‘Bobby Lutz’) in the CBS sitcom ‘Friends with Better Lives’, and two years later, he appeared in the recurring role of ‘Charlie Graham’ in the show ‘Pitch’. In the 2014 drama film ‘Reach Me’ by John Herzfeld, Connolly featured alongside Sylvester Stallone, Kyra Sedgwick, and Terry Crews, as ‘Roger’. The film didn’t do well at the box office and also failed to please the critics.
