Career

After completing her university studies, Kate Siegel began her acting career on stage and performed for both Washington Shakespeare Company and the Folger Theatre. One of the significant theatre production of which she became a part of was the 2008 Tennessee Shakespeare Festival production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Her onscreen acting debut happened in 2007 with Dan Goldman’s direct-to-video horror film The Curse of the Black Dahlia. The same year, she appeared in the crime thriller drama Hacia la oscuridad (Towards Darkness) and another drama Steam. In 2008 and 2009, she appeared in a couple of short films Knocked Down and Puke in My Mouth. The year 2009 also marked her entry on the television screen with the supernatural series Ghost Whisperer wherein she played Cheryl in an episode.

This was followed by a series of single episode appearances in various television series. These include Numbers (2010), The Unknown (2012), Castle (2012), Where Would We Be (2012) and Mob City (2013). Meanwhile, she also continued to act in films like Wedding Day (2012), Man Camp (2013), Demon Legacy (2014) and Hot (2016). Her short films during this period include The Collector (2012), Dead Room: Origins (2014), The Program (2015) and Wine Jabs (2015).

Though Siegel has acted in a number of projects, she is best known for her collaborations with her husband and filmmaker Mike Flanagan. The two first worked together in the 2013 supernatural, psychological horror film Oculus, co-written, edited and directed by Flanagan.

Thereafter, in 2016, came the nail-biting horror thriller Hush wherein Kate Siegel played a deaf and mute writer whose tranquil life in the woods is threatened when a ruthless masked killer begins to stalk her. The film received appreciation and Siegel received nominations at various award functions. Apart from acting in the film, she also co-wrote the script together with Flanagan.

The two worked together again in the 2016 supernatural horror film Ouija: Origin of Evil and the 2017 psychological horror film Gerald's Game before coming together for the Netflix supernatural horror drama series The Haunting of Hill House in 2018. Loosely drawing from Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel, the drama was the first in Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting anthology series and had Siegal playing the adult Theodora Theo Crain. The series was critically appreciated and inspired a follow up series The Haunting of Bly Manor which was based on Henry James 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw. The series premiered on Netflix in 2020 and saw the return of several actors, including Siegal, from the first series. Their next work together is the supernatural horror web television series Midnight Mass (Netflix, 2021).

Her other work during this period include a short film Let's Go Down (2019) and an action police procedural television series Hawaii Five-0 (2020) in which she worked in an episode. Her other upcoming project is a horror thriller film Hypnotic.
