Jessica Jung, popularly known as Jessica, is an American singer-songwriter, fashion, designer, model, actress and businesswoman. She first came into limelight due to her stunning vocal display in the popular K-pop girl band ‘Girls’ Generation’. Her songs ‘Love Hate’, ‘Fly’, ‘Mabinogi’, ‘What To Do’, and ‘Say Yes’ made her an instant global hit. Having enthralled the audience with her absolutely marvellous vocals, Jessica has also managed to acquire a huge fan base on social media as well, because of her innocent and pure good looks. She has worked as a model and is known for her impeccable fashion sense. She has also launched her own clothing line. Apart from that, she has also acted in films like ‘I AM.’ and ‘My Other Home’. Jessica Jung was born Jessica Sooyun Jung in San Francisco, California on April 18, 1989. At the age of 11, she moved to Seoul, South Korea to become a trainee and pursue her dream as a performer.

Career
In 2000, while shopping in a mall with her sister, Jessica was discovered by S. M. Entertainment. She soon joined the company and worked as a trainee for several years. In 2007, she appeared as one of the 9 members of the Korean music group named ‘Girls’ Generation’. She sang two singles ‘Love Hate’ and ‘Mabinogi’ for the group’s debut album.
In 2008, ‘Infinity’, the Girls’ Generation’s second album, was released. She sang a number of tracks, collaborating with her band mates. Her vocals in ‘One Year Later’, ‘Naengmyeon’ and ‘Seoul Song’ were widely appreciated. She was seen in a small role in the TV series ‘Unstoppable Marriage’.
The following year, Jessica made her debut in the musical theatre genre by appearing in Legally Blonde’s South Korean production. She also appeared on the show ‘Infinity Challenge’ during the same year.
In 2010, she appeared as a guest on a number of TV shows which made her a household name. She released her single ‘Sweet Delight’ which received wide appreciation. She also appeared in a cameo role in the TV series ‘Oh! My Lady’.
In 2011, Jessica’s song ‘Because Tears Are Overflowing’ featured on the drama series ‘Romance Town’. In 2012, Jessica made her acting debut by appearing in ‘Wild Romance’. Her song ‘My Lifestyle’ was featured in the Hyundai i30 commercial.
In August 2014, she launched her own fashion line named ‘Blanc & Enclare’, describing the collection as comfortable and detailed. She also said that each of the designs from the collection is one that she would like to wear. She also released another single ‘Say Yes’ and it went on to be featured in the soundtrack for ‘Make Your Move’.
She starred as the lead in the 2015 movie ‘I Love That Crazy Little Thing’. She also sang the song ‘Love! Love! Aloha!’ For the film. Earlier that year, Jessica started a reality show titled ‘Jessica & Krystal’.
In 2016, her singles ‘Fly’ and ‘Love Me the Same’ became instant hits. In addition to singing these songs, she also co-composed them. These tracks were featured in her debut solo album ‘With Love,J.’ She also released a special single titled ‘Golden Sky’ dedicated to her fans.
Her second solo album ‘Wonderland’ was released at the end of the year 2016. The album contained six songs like ‘Dancing on the Moon’, ‘World of Dreams’, and ‘Celebrate’. Jessica also appeared in the music videos for the same.

She played Elle Woods in Korean musical theatre’s adaptation of the movie ‘Legally Blonde’ from 2009 to 2013.
In 2017, she starred in the movie ‘Two Bellmen Three’ as Mi-na Kim. She is set to appear in the Chinese-American sports biopic based on the story of former NBA player Stephon Marbury titled ‘My Other Home’.
Major Works
In addition to being fabulous at different things, Jessica is also an ardent giver. Over the years, she has donated and worked for a number of major causes. In 2009, Jessica along with her band mates from ‘Girls’ Generation’ auctioned off their clothing. They donated all the proceeds from the auction to children in need all around the world.
In October 2014, Jessica collaborated her brand ‘Blanc & Enclare’ with Help For Children Charity, which is an anti-children abuse organisation. The charity event included people designing their own sunglasses and the winning design would feature in her collection. The profits all went to the charity organisation.
In October 2015, she attended the W Korea charity event with her sister Krystal Jung. She also raised funds for the State of Emergency Clean Up. She also attended the ‘Love Your W’ Breast Cancer Charity Event.

In 2012, Jessica was nominated at the 2nd SBS MTV Best of the Best Awards, in the Best Cameo category for her appearance in Sherlock.
In 2013, she won the Popularity Award at the 7th Musical Awards for Legally Blonde. She also received a nomination for Most Popular Drama OST at the 8th Seoul International Drama Awards for ‘Butterfly’.
She went on to win the Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am 2014 Award, the Yahoo Asia Buzz Award in the Most Searched Korean Female Artist Category and the Sohu Fashion Awards in the Asian Fashion Icon category. She was also nominated for the 7th Style Icon Awards in the Top 10 Style Icons category for her reality show, Jessica & Krystal.
The year 2015 saw her winning the Asian Popularity Award at the Yahoo Asia Buzz Awards. The following year, she was awarded the Hot Trend Asia of Korea Award at the YinYueTai 4th V Chart Awards.
She featured on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Asia 2017 list of the most influential people under the age of 30, who have made significant achievements.
Personal Life
She is said to have dated Tyler Kwon, the founder of Koridel Entertainment, a South Korean Entertainment Company, in 2014.
She is very close to her sister and has often described Krystal as her best friend. They both share a very typical teasing and childish sister relationship.
