Jason David Frank was an American actor as well as a professional mixed martial artist. He was famous for playing the role of Tommy Oliver in multiple seasons of the series ‘Power Rangers.’ He also portrayed the same character in its feature film incarnation ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie’. Besides this, he guest-starred in the dramas ‘Cybertron’, ‘Sweet Valley High’, ‘Family Matters’ and ‘Undressed’. He also acted in the web series ‘Ninjak vs the Valiant Universe’ and ‘Transformers: Titans Return’. In addition, Jason David Frank did considerable work on the big screen as well. He acted in the films and short films ‘The Junior Defenders’, ‘Fall Guy: The John Stewart Story’, ‘The Blue Sun’ and ‘Crammed 2: Hoaching’. He was a trained martial artist as well. As an internationally recognized award-winning instructor, he was also known for developing his own style of American Karate namely ‘Toso Kune Do’. The style is a unique combination of Taekwondo, Shotokan, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Jeet Kune Do, Wado-Ryu, Wing Chun, Savate and Muay Thai. The American actor, who held a 7th Degree Black Belt was also the CEO and President of Rising Sun Karate Academy (R.S.K.A). Frank also knew skydiving and was a 2013 Guinness World Record Holder for the most 1 inch pine board broken while in freefall!

Childhood & Early Life
Jason David Frank was born on September 4, 1973 in Covina, California, USA to parents Janice Frank and Ray Frank. His mother Janice was of half-Polish and half-Greek descent. He had an elder brother, Eric Frank, who died in 2001.
He developed an interest in martial arts at a tender age. At the age of four, Frank started training at the Red Dragon Karate School.

Acting Career
Jason David Frank first appeared as Tommy Oliver in the 1993 series ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’. He then appeared in ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie’.
In 1996, he did ‘Power Rangers Zeo’. The same year, he starred in the series ‘Sweet Valley High’ and ‘Family Matters’. A year later, the actor got featured in ‘Power Rangers Turbo’. After this, he played the role of Carl in the series ‘Undressed’.
Frank then appeared in an episode of ‘Power Rangers Wild Force’ in 2002. Two years later, he acted in ’Power Rangers Dino Thunder’. In 2007, he played Tommy Keen in the flick ‘The Junior Defenders’. Seven years later, he did an episode of ‘Power Rangers Super Megaforce’.
He then did the web series ‘Ninjak vs. the Valiant Universe’ and ‘Transformers: Titans Return’ in 2017. The same year, he appeared in a cameo role in the movie ‘Power Rangers’.
Career as a Mixed Martial Artist
Jason David Frank has a deep knowledge of several different techniques of martial arts that include Taekwondo, Shotokan, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Jeet Kune Do, Wado-Ryu, Wing Chun, Savate and Muay Thai. Borrowing elements from each of these techniques, he developed his own unique technique of American Karate namely ‘Toso Kune Do’.
In 2009, he signed with the sports marketing and management company, SuckerPunch Entertainment. He then made his MMA debut for United States Amateur Combat Association at the Houston Arena Theatre on January 30 where he defeated Jonathon "the Mack Truck" Mack in round 1 by omoplata submission.
On February 19, 2010, Frank fought his second fight against Chris Rose. The former defeated the latter in the first round by TKO. On May 8, 2010, Frank fought against James Willis in Cage Amateur Association "Cage Rage 7" and defeated his opponent in first round via KO.
On August 4, 2010, the American martial artist made his professional debut and fought with Jose Roberto Vasquez in Houston. He defeated Vasquez and won his pro MMA debut in the first round at the time of 0:46 via Rear Naked Choke Submission.
Frank made his debut with the Ultimate Warrior Challenge at their event on May 22, 2010. He fought against Carlos Horn in a heavyweight bout. In this event, Frank won the first round via armbar submission and defeated his opponent.

Awards & Achievements
Jason David Frank is a seventh degree Black Belt holder. He also holds a Guinness World Record in skiving (for the most pine boards broken during freefall).
In 1994, American Karate Kung Fu Federation honored him with ‘Hall of Fame Award’.
After winning a ‘Program Direct Award’ in 2000, Frank won ‘Centurion Club Award’ the following year.
On June 28, 2003, Frank was given the title of ‘Master of the Year’ for American Karate. The same year, he was inducted in World Karate Union Hall of Fame.
In the year 2005, he was honored with Arnold Schwarzenegger Classics Master Appreciation Award.
Frank received ‘Black Belt Hall of Fame Award’ in 2007 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The same year, he was given ‘Black Belt Hall of Fame Award’ for the ‘Most Successful Industry Leader’ by Doctor Jim Thomas.
Personal Life

On 8 May 1994, Jason David Frank married Shawna. The couple had three kids: Jacob, Hunter and Skye. Jason and Shawna separated in April 2001.

In 2003, he got married to Tammie, who herself is a martial artist. The couple had a daughter named Jenna Frank.

Jason David Frank died by suicide on November 19, 2022, at the age of 49, in Texas. He was battling with depression and mental health issues. 

Trivia

Jason David Frank was quite humorous in real life and liked to pull pranks while filming on the sets. One such prank involved kissing his co-star Amy Jo Johnson for filming of a Christmas episode, but during one of the takes, he took his pants down on camera!

His favorite hobby is parachuting.
Frank is also the creator and owner of MMA merchandise titled ‘Jesus Didn't Tap’.
He was not able to attend the last rites of his friend and costar Thuy Trang as he was busy teaching martial arts at a martial arts school in Houston, Texas.
