Jamie Clayton is an American model and actor who is best known for her role in the ‘Netflix’ series ‘Sense8.’ She was born and raised in San Diego, California. She began her career as a makeup artist. Jamie has been a transgender since birth and has had to face many challenging obstacles to make her mark in the industry. Although she started her career as a makeup artist and a presenter, she still managed to grab major TV roles. After appearing on the ‘Vh1’ show ‘TRANSform Me’ as a presenter, she was offered the role of ‘Kyla’ in the third season of the series, titled ‘Hung,’ that aired on ‘HBO.’ Following this, she appeared as a lead in the series ‘Dirty Work.’ She appeared in many TV series such as ‘Are We There Yet?,’ ‘Hustling,’ and ‘Scissr.’ She was also offered the role of a casting director in the film ‘The Neon Demon.’
Childhood & Early Life
Jamie Clayton was born on January 15, 1978, and was raised in San Diego, California. Her father, Howard Clayton, worked as a defence attorney, and her mother, Shelley Clayton, was an event planner.
She grew up with her sister, Toni. Jamie later moved to New York. She had always dreamed of being a makeup artist, but had never thought of being an actor.

Jamie started her career as a makeup artist. At the same time, she also hosted the ‘Vh1’ show ‘TRANSform Me.’ The American reality show premiered on March 15, 2010. It revolved around the makeover of girls by three trans-women stylists.
The following year, she was cast in the HBO series ‘Hung.’ Jamie was offered the role of ‘Kyla,’ which was a recurring role. It was a comedy–drama series that aired on ‘HBO’ from June 28, 2009, to December 4, 2011. She appeared in the third season of the series.

In 2014, she was offered the role of ‘Niamh’ in the series ‘Scissr.’ The web series was about lesbian relationships.
In 2015, she bagged the role of ‘Nomi Marks’ in the American science-fiction web series ‘Sense8.’ The series aired from 2015 to 2018 and was divided into two seasons, encompassing 24 episodes. The show garnered positive reviews from critics and audiences and also won the ‘GLAAD Media Award’ for ‘Outstanding Drama Series.’
Finally, in 2016, Jamie made her big-screen debut with the psychological thriller ‘The Neon Demon.’ She played the role of a casting director in the film. The movie was about a teenager on her journey to become a supermodel.
In late 2016, she was cast in the Canadian police-procedural TV drama ‘Motive.’ The series garnered around 1.23 million viewers on the day it premiered. Clayton played the role of ‘Avery Bowman’ in an episode titled ‘The Dead Name.’ The concept of the series was quite similar to that of ‘Columbo,’ where the killer and the victim were revealed at the very beginning of the episode and the rest of the plot revolved around chasing the culprit.
In 2017, Jamie appeared as ‘Edda’ in the British psychological crime thriller ‘The Snowman.’ The film was based on the novel of the same name by Jo Nesbo. The plot of the film narrated the tale of a man and his illegitimate son.
The same year, Jamie played the role of ‘Dr. Ryan’ in the drama–thriller movie ‘The Chain.’ The film was about a man who was required to kill a person to join an assisted-suicide company.
Jamie Clayton is a transgender woman, and she never felt the need to hide her real identity. She was never ashamed of her real self and felt proud to be part of the LGBTQ community.
She is not married to anyone and is attracted to both men and women. It was believed that she once dated ‘Matrix’ star Keanu Reeves, but none of them confirmed their relationship.
