Relocating places affected Jack’s school life to some extent as he developed a disliking for going to school. Moreover while attending a Christian school in Los Angeles Jack was diagnosed with a type of dyslexia at age eight and ADHD at age ten. He later attended the special needs Park Century School in Los Angeles after returning there from England.

Jack Osbourne's parents also organised the Ozzfest with him. It was an annual music festival tour founded by his parents and featured bands of different genres within heavy metal and hard rock. Jack would advise his mother on up-and-coming bands.

Jack became drunk with whisky for the first time on his thirteenth birthday and started drinking regularly and smoking marijuana by the time he became fourteen. He also became too much of a party animal. He was admitted to a child psychiatric ward for an addiction to OxyContin. The news made headlines on April 21, 2003. His own depression added with the news of his mother’s diagnosis with cancer led Jack to get more addicted to drugs. He became self-destructive and at one instance he tried to take his own life after he called his girlfriend and heard voice of her ex-boyfriend on the other side of the line. Jack later got admitted to an adolescent psychiatric ward. After 10 days of detoxing he joined an adolescent rehabilitation center in Malibu and underwent a recovery program.
