While Edward Avila was still living in US, he created his channel under the username ‘mrpanda101’ on April 7, 2006. In the beginning, his content did not have anything to do with beauty and makeup. He had an old Nokia phone, on which he took videos of himself and his friends and posted them on the channel. Avila stated in an interview, “I started it mainly because I, too, wanted to join this new platform of sharing my random or creative content." However, those videos are not available on his channel any longer. It is reasonable to assume that he has since removed them.

The oldest video on his channel, titled ‘Valentine's Day Look for Guys (Makeup, Hair, and Outfit Ideas)’, was posted on February 12, 2013. In the description, he explained that he was inspired by that year’s Spring Korean Fashion, so he decided to offer some advice on how to present oneself on that year’s Valentine’s Day. In his next video, uploaded on 7 September, he gave a tutorial on how to replicate the hairstyle of Lu Han, the Chinese singer and actor presently affiliated with the South Korean-Chinese group Exo. These two videos provided a clear indication to his early subscribers on what his intention was with the channel at the time.

Avila does not have any professional training as a makeup artist. In college, he studied art, filmmaking, and video-game design but never graduated. He even sometimes states in his videos that he is not that great at makeup. However, as one among the slew of Korean beauty gurus that are active on YouTube, he has been able to accumulate a large group of viewers because of his inherent charm and engaging content. These days, he receives hundreds of thousands of views on each of his videos. Some of the most popular uploads on his channel are ‘Laneige Two Tone Tint Lip Bars - Edward Avila’, ‘Trying these lipstick cards lol - Edward Avila’, and ‘Doing Big Marvel's makeup - Edward Avila’. Avila is one of the beauty-related content creators affiliated with Beauty Beasts, a YouTube program distributed by Treasure Hunter Network. They have over 30 thousand subscribers on their channel.

Avila started using Korean beauty products after he moved to the country. His everyday makeup could be anything between a “no-makeup” look and "full-on bronze sultry eyes”, and he always applies a cushion compact all over his face, as well as some concealer on spots and breakouts and a light coating of powder on the centre of his face. In an interview with ‘Allure’ in 2017, he admitted that he preferred light over heavy base and believed “less is more”.

Avila posts makeup and skincare product reviews; vlogs; and makeover, “get ready with me,” reaction, skincare, and hair-styling videos. He is mostly known for recreating the looks of popular K-pop idols and other celebrities.

On August 21, 2017, Avila put out his and Trophy Cat’s English-Korean song ‘Body’ on his channel. They released their next collaboration, ‘Beauty’, on April 14, 2018. On March 29, 2019, their album ‘XO’ was released. It is comprised of two songs, the title track and ‘Lonely Night’.

Avila was born on April 2, 1992, in California, USA. Ethnically, he half-American and half-Filipino. When he was about 20 or 21 years old, he relocated to South Korea, and about a year later, settled in Seoul. He was a high-school senior when he used makeup for the first time. During this period, he was starting to have serious acne and wanted to cover them up, along with the dark circles, with makeup. According to Avila, he was inspired after watching a video of Michelle Phan demonstrating that men put on makeup as well. In a video titled ‘Guy Makeup Tutorial’, she showed how to hide William Ray Johnson's dark circles. Phan’s content also made him interested in vlogging.

Avila is gay and earnestly speaks about it in his videos.
