Fox executive, Marcia Shulman came to see the play and funnily enough, David Walton sold her a set of knives. Luckily, the meeting and Walton’s performance in the play were enough to convince Shulman to cast him in the TV sitcom ‘Cracking Up’ (2004 – 2006). This was David Walton’s breakthrough role and set the tone for the rest of his career as a talented comedic actor. In 2004, he also made his movie debut with a small role in ‘Stateside’. His next major role came in the NBC series ‘Heist’ (2006). Unfortunately, the series was canceled after six episodes due to low ratings.

These two roles really established him as a comedic talent on TV on par with the best of his generation.
2010 continued to be one of the biggest years of David Walton’s career. He co-starred in the musical movie ‘Burlesque’ alongside the likes of Cher and Christina Aguilera. The movie not only earned a ‘Golden Globe’ nomination, but also generated more than US $80 million in profits. He then went on to produce and co-star in the sitcom ‘Bent’ (2012). It was, however canceled due to low ratings. Walton then portrayed Sam Sweeney in the Fox sitcom ‘New Girl’ (2012 – 2018).
