Danny Koker is an American reality star, musician, producer, and celebrity mechanic, who gained fame for his show ‘Counting Cars’. The series focusing on customizing classic cars and motorcycles, in Danny’s own customization and restoration shop, ‘Count’s Kustoms’, is one of ‘History’ channel's biggest hits and longest running shows. Danny who himself is a self-taught mechanic is the mastermind behind the show and the shop. He looks after the show's production as well as the customization of vehicles. The versatile businessman is, however, not limited to, his love of vintage cars and bikes. Being the son and nephew of celebrated musicians, he is also the lead singer of the Las Vegas-based hard rock band ‘Count’s 77’. Danny and the band have been able to capitalize on the fame from ‘Counting Cars’ popularity and ‘Summer of 77’ is one of the band’s most popular songs. Danny also owns more than 55 cars and 70 motorcycles.
Career & Fame
Daniel Nicholas Koker II was brought up in Cleveland and Detroit. His father was an official of the Ford Motor company and gifted him a cruiser at the age of eight. Spending a number of his formative years in Motor City ‘Detroit’ and the gift from his father started Danny’s long affair with cars. Initially, he self-taught himself how to restore cars as a hobby, but soon realized that he could turn it into a source of living.
Danny’s family wanted to try out new ventures when he was growing up and they bought the Las Vegas TV channel, ‘Channel 33’. Consequently, he started appearing as the character ‘Count Cool Rider’ and hosted the series ‘Saturday Fright At The Movies’ in 1990. This gave him fame and he started getting recognized by more and more people.
In the meantime, Danny also started taking restoration of vintage cars and motorcycles more seriously. Banking on his new-found fame, he started his own restoration and customization shop ‘Count’s Kustoms’, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The moniker ‘Count’ came from his time on the Channel 33 show. As the business grew, Danny started focusing on the demands of individual customers and making custom hot rods and choppers. Needless to say, the high quality work resulted in a booming business. However, this was not the only success Danny would enjoy.
In 2010, the ‘History’ Channel show ‘Pawn Stars’ became a surprise and massive hit. Danny Koker appeared as himself, the owner of ‘Count’s Kustoms’ on the series many times, to give his expertise on vintage cars and bikes. He did similar cameos in the show ‘American Restoration’ between 2011 and 2014 and soon became a household name.
‘History’ channel realized that there was a chance to capitalize on his huge popularity and in 2012, came up with the series ‘Counting Cars’ focusing on the daily activities at ‘Count’s Kustoms’. The first episode entitled ‘McQueen For A Day’ aired on August 13, 2012. Danny who was already a celebrity car expert by then brought in millions of viewers, making the show a massive hit. The show is currently running in its eighth season and is one of the longest running TV series in the channel’s history.
The popularity of the show has generated millions for Danny through merchandise sales, advertisements, and promotions. Additionally, Danny also runs a successful restaurant named ‘Count’s Vamp’d Rock Bar & Grill’ and a tattoo shop ‘Count’s Tattoo Company’.
In addition to his love of cars, Danny Koker also got his love for music from his family. His father was a musician, composer who arranged for bands like ‘Foggy River Boys’ and played piano for legends like Johnny Cash and Pat Boone. Danny started touring with his uncle’s band ‘The Rex Humbard Family Singers’ and also sang with ‘The Koker Family Singers’ at a very young age. This helped him develop as an accomplished lead-vocalist and musician in his own right. His old school hard rock band ‘Count’s 77’, featuring Stoney Curtis, John Zitto, Paul DiSibio, Barry Barnes, and Tommy Paris is massively popular.
