They began vlogging on May 27, 2011. In these early years, their videos received only a few thousand views each. While there were some videos that garnered tens of thousands of views, they were very rare. About a year after they started vlogging, Cullen made the decision to be a full-time YouTuber.

It was a while before the channel found success. By 2014, most of their videos had started getting tens of thousands of views. Their subscriber count was expanding exponentially as well. Since then, they have emerged as one of the most successful family vlogging channels on YouTube. The most watched video on their channel is ‘Chuck-E-Cheese Birthday Celebration!’, with 10 million views.

Besides their main channel, Katie runs a personal channel as well, where she posts videos on pregnancy, motherhood, cooking and hauls. Cullen and Katie are good friends with fellow family vloggers Bryan and Missy Lanning from the ‘Daily Bumps’ channel and Ellie and Jared Mecham from the ‘Ellie and Jared’ channel.

Cullen was born on October 27, 1982, in Birmingham, Alabama to Arthur Howard “Gerald” Byington, III and Berry Anne Byington. He has three sisters: Rachael, Annie, and Britany. His father had been an active U.S. Marine stationed in Okinawa, Japan before coming back to the U.S. and completing his education. He subsequently worked as an accountant for several years and then opened his own business. Howard Byington III died of cancer on March 26, 2015.

Cullen and Katie met at a football game sometime in the early 2000s. While they found each other attractive, Katie was in a relationship at the time. A few months later, after she and her previous boyfriend had broken up, her friend Brooke told her about a party which Cullen would be attending. At the party, they got reacquainted and started dating soon after. After only ten days of dating, they professed their love for each other. At the time, he still resided in Birmingham whereas she lived in Tuscaloosa. For the following two years, they maintained a long-distance relationship.

They broke up at one point for two months as neither thought that the other person was right for them. Despite the split, Cullen called Katie every day, eventually making her realize that she could not live without him. They resumed their relationship in August 2005 and he subsequently moved to Tuscaloosa to be with her. He later proposed to her at the same spot where they had their first date. She accepted and they got married on May 12, 2007.

After Katie landed an internship in Tallahassee, Florida, they moved there. She completed her education there and Cullen worked from home. They eventually returned to Alabama, bought a house and decided to expand the family. They found out that Katie was pregnant in January 2013. However, about eight weeks later, she suffered a miscarriage. They initially did not want to vlog about it but decided to do it eventually. In the video, they dubbed the tragedy ‘God’s Plan’. Katie suffered a second miscarriage in September that year. Their daughter, Macey Gaines, was born via C-section on September 21, 2014. Their son, Brooks, was born on July 19, 2016.
