Cheri Oteri is an actress and comedian from USA who has made a mark with her performance on the popular TV show ‘Saturday Night Live’. She was a regular cast member of the show from 1995 to 2000. During her five years with the show, she became quite popular and a favorite of many viewers for her impressions of various celebrities, such as Ross Perot, Barbara Walters, Jennifer Lopez, Cyndi Lauper, Katie Couric, and Alanis Morissette, to name a few. However, she could not replicate the same success after she left the show to pursue other projects. She could hardly manage to secure a few roles in movies and other TV shows, unlike her colleagues from the same show Tracy Morgan and Will Ferrell.
Cheri Oteri started her stint in the entertainment industry by being part of the comedy troupe ‘The Groundlings’. This group started performing in 1974 and is predominantly an improvisational sketch comedy troupe that boasts of popular names like Lisa Kudrow and Kristen Wiig. In 1995, she was found by a scout from ‘Saturday Night Live’ who happened to be at a performance of ‘The Groundlings’. The scout was extremely impressed by her performance and went on to invite her for an audition. Soon enough, she got the role and became a regular cast member of ‘Saturday Night Live’.
After she left ‘Saturday Night Live’ in 2000, she went on to play roles in various shows such as ‘Loomis’ in 2001, where she played the role of a TV reporter from California, ‘With you in Spirit’ in 2003, which was a small TV show where Cheri was part of an ensemble cast, and ‘Stephen’s Life’ in 2005, where she played a school principal. Unfortunately, none of these shows could run successfully for an entire season.
Though her TV career never picked up, she had a decent run on the big screen. She was cast as ‘Jane’ in the popular movie ‘Liar Liar,’ which starred Jim Carrey. This was officially her first success in the film industry. After this, she starred in various other comedies and animated movies. Her most recent movies include ‘Bad Parent’, ‘Grown Ups 2’ and ‘F the Prom.’
She is also known for her deep voice and has done a lot of voice-over work. This includes voicing ‘Sleeping Beauty’ in ‘Shrek the Third’, ‘Doreen Nickle’ in ‘The Ant Bully’, ‘Kristy’ on TV Land’s animated comedy ‘Glenn Martin DDS,’ and ‘Blobsnark’ in the HBO comedy ‘The Life & Times of Tim’. Her recent works in this department include TV shows such as ‘Puppy Dog Pals’, ‘The Adventures of Bunny Bravo’ and ‘Bunsen is a Beast’.
