Avi Rothman is an American actor, producer, and writer who rose to fame after his relationship with the award-winning comedian and actress Kristen Wiig hit the news. Rothman began his career at the Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles and embarked upon his acting journey in 2006 with his short ‘Ogden: The Inappropriate Yoga Guy’. He slowly expanded his portfolio with quick appearances in ‘Boundaries’, ‘Partners’, ‘Flowers and Weeds’, and ‘The Game’. He received his first big billing when he appeared in the popular comedy ‘Love, Sex, and Missed Connections’. Despite strong performances, lead roles continued to elude Rothman and he settled for playing supporting roles. In the meanwhile, he continued writing scripts for short films as well. He is most remembered for his performances in the movies ‘The Slammin' Salmon’ and ‘Silver Lake’. He was recently in the news after his engagement with his girlfriend of three years was announced. His latest projects include a recurring role in the comedy TV series ‘Sandra’ and a film release in 2020.

Avi Rothman knew early in his life that he wanted to be a part of the entertainment industry early in his life. After graduating from the Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles, he started writing film scripts. Rothman made his debut on the big screen with the short ‘Ogden: The Inappropriate Yoga Guy’ in 2006, where he played the titular character. The story for this was inspired from his real-life experience with yoga. Apart from acting, Rothman also wrote the screenplay for this film. He continued with short films in the next year with the releases ‘Boundaries’ and ‘Fitness Made Difficult.’ Next, he was seen in the TV movie ‘Partners’. Apart from starring in the Greg Thanos comedy, he was also the writer for this hit film.
In 2008, he first starred in the short ‘Flowers and Weeds’ and was later seen in the TV movie ‘Modern Day Jesus’ as Jesus. He also made his TV debut in the comedy drama ‘The Game’ in the same year. In 2009, he started receiving bigger roles. He played Steve Lemmaducci in the Kevin Heffernan comedy ‘The Slammin' Salmon’.In the comedy TV series ‘Electric Spoofaloo’, he appeared in the episode ‘Lady Gaga’s Fierce Factor’ as Jax. He ended the year with an appearance in the TV series ‘Destined to Fail’.
Despite a slow and staggered start in Hollywood, Rothman’s passion for acting and filmmaking did not recede. In 2010, he starred in the coming of age drama ‘The Hammer’ as the resident advisor. However, roles dried up briefly before Rothman came back strongly in 2012. He was first seen in ‘Love, Sex, and Missed Connections’ as Allan; later, he appeared as the rabbi in the TV series ‘Co-op of the Damned’. This was followed by a couple of shorts ‘Intoxicated Man’ and ‘Blessing in Disguise.’ In 2013, he was only seen in the TV movie ‘A Mother’s Rage’ as Deputy Wilson. 2014 proved to be a more productive year as he had over five big-screen appearances. He started off with the short ‘The iMom’ and later played the role of Ed in the TV series ‘Franklin & Bash.’ He followed this up a role in the TV movie ‘Codependents’ as Alex. Other releases from 2014 included ‘Blue Lips’, ‘Bunion’, and ‘Health Nuts’. In the next couple of years, he was only seen in the shorts ‘Hello Charles’ and ‘Worst-Case Scenario, Inc.’
In 2017, he starred as Josh in the shorts ‘All Good’ and as Austin in ‘Helen’. He was also seen in the TV series ‘Lost & Found’ as Tim. He received his first recurring role on TV in 2018 with the comedy ‘Sandra’ starring Kristen Wiig, Alia Shawkat, and Christopher Abbott. Rothman played the role of Tad in two episodes. He ended the year with the Sean McGinly comedy ‘Silver Lake’, where he played the role of Jay. He shared screen space with Martin Starr, Deborah Ann Woll, and Fred Melamed in this box-office hit. Rothman is currently involved in the filming of the drama ‘The Blackout’ as Paolo. The movie is scheduled for release in 2020.
