Famous Finnish Ice Hockey Players

Tuuka Rask a Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender. He currently plays for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL). Highly skilled, he won the Vezina Trophy as the league's top goaltender during the 2013-14 season. He also played for the national team at the 2014 Winter Olympics. His brother, Joonas Rask, is also a professional ice hockey player.

Teemu Selänne is a Finnish retired ice hockey player who played as a winger. Dubbed the Finnish Flash, Teemu is the highest scoring player from Finland in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL). In 2017, he became only the second Finn after Jari Kurri to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Finnish retired hockey player Jari Kurri is not just a 5-time Stanley Cup winner but also the first from his country to be part of the Hockey Hall of Fame. An Olympic bronze medal winner, he managed the Finnish team post-retirement. He is married to former Miss Finland, Vanessa Forsman.

Finnish ice hockey goaltender Pekka Rinne has been a silver medalist at the 2014 World Championships. He has been part of the NHL team Nashville Predators and has won the Vezina Trophy, too. A 4-time NHL All-Star, he also won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2021.

Finnish ice hockey forward Kasperi Kapanen is best known for his stint with the NHL team Pittsburgh Penguins. The son of former ice hockey player Sami Kapanen and the grandson of Hockey Hall of Famer Hannu Kapanen, he has won gold medals at the Winter Youth Olympics and the World U20 Championship.

One of Finland’s greatest hockey players of all time, Saku Koivu has been part of the Finnish World Championship-winning team in 1995. He has won 4 Olympic medals, including a silver. He is a cancer survivor and has been part of the International Olympic Committee Athletes' Commission.

Mikko Koivu is a Finnish retired ice hockey player who played as a centre. He is best known for leading the Finnish national team at the 2011 World Championship where the team won the gold medal. Mikko Koivu was also part of the team that won a silver medal and a bronze medal at the 2006 and 2010 Olympics, repsectively.

Jesse Puljujarvi is a Finnish ice hockey player best known for winning the gold medal at the 2016 World Junior Championship. Rated as a top prospect, Jesse Puljujarvi is currently signed to the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL. 

Leo Komarov is an ice hockey player best known for winning the gold medal for the Finnish national team at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. He was also part of the team that won the gold medal at the IIHF World Championship in 2011. Leo Komarov has won several prestigious tournaments like the Karjala Cup and Sweden Hockey Games. 

Mikael Granlund is a Finnish ice hockey player best known for winning the bronze medal for his country at the 2014 Winter Olympics. He has also been a part of the team that won the gold medal at the 2011 and 2022 World Championships. Mikael Granlund also plays in the NHL and is the current alternate captain of the Predators. 

Esa Tikkanen is a Finnish retired ice hockey player who played as a forward. He is best known for his association with the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL) with which he won four Stanley Cups. Esa Tikkanen took his overall tally of Stanley Cups to five when he helped New York Rangers win the title in 1994.

Miikka Kiprusoff is a Finnish retired ice hockey player who played as a goaltender. He is best known for helping his national team win the bronze medal at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. He also won silver medals at the 1999 and 2001 World Championships as well as a silver medal at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.

Olli Jokinen is a Finnish retired ice hockey player best known for winning the silver medal for his national team at the 2006 Olympic Games. He also won the bronze medals at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Olli Jokinen also helped his team win three silver medals and three bronze medals at the World Championships.

Rasmus Ristolainen is a Finnish ice hockey player best known for winning the gold medal at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Malmö. Rasmus Ristolainen currently plays for the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL.

Kari Lehtonen is a Finnish ice hockey player who plays as a goaltender. Currently an unrestricted free agent, Lehtonen previously represented the Dallas Stars of the NHL. An important player for the Finland national team, Kari Lehtonen helped his team win the bronze medal at the 2014 Olympic Games. He also won a silver medal at the 2007 World Championships.

The son of legendary Russian ice hockey player Alexander Sr., Aleksander Barkov, Jr. is best known as an ice hockey center who led the NHL team Florida Panthers as its captain. At a little over 16 years, he was the youngest Finnish player at the IIHF World Junior Championship.

Kimmo Timonen is a Finnish retired ice hockey player who played in more than 1,100 NHL games for various teams like the Philadelphia Flyers, Nashville Predators, and Chicago Blackhawks. Kimmo Timonen also helped his national team win a silver medal and three bronze medals at the Olympics. In 2020, he was made an inductee of the IIHF Hall of Fame.

Joonas Donskoi is a Finnish ice hockey player who plays as a forward. He has represented his national team in important tournaments like the Ice Hockey World Championships and the World Cup of Hockey. Joonas Donskoi currently plays for the Seattle Kraken of the NHL.

Pentti Lund was a Finnish-Canadian ice hockey player who played as a right winger. He is best remembered for becoming the first Finnish-born ice hockey player to play and score a goal in the NHL. Lund was made an inductee of the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame and Finnish Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984 and 1992 respectively.
