Janet Leigh was an American actress whose creative talent and artistic skills made her a popular actress of her time. Never actually intending to become an actor, Leigh was accidentally discovered by Norman Shearer which led to the beginning of her acting career.
Leigh’s first film was the big budget movie ‘The Romance of Rosy Ridge’. Her brilliant portrayal as the love interest of Van Johnson’s character earned her quite a many roles in successful films like ‘If Winter Comes’, ‘The Stratton Story’ and ‘Hills of Home’. The big breakthrough of Leigh’s career came in 1949 with the film ‘Little Women’. The film showcased her versatility and led to her future filmography that consisted of several hit films such as ‘Living It Up’, ‘Act of Violence’, ‘Angels in the Outfield’, ‘Scaramouche’, ‘The Naked Spur’, ‘Safari’ and ‘Touch of Evil’.
Leigh’s most prolific work came in 1960 with Alfred Hitchhock’s ‘Psycho’. Her character of Marion Crane earned her a Golden Globe award and an Academy nomination. Leigh and she delivered several flops as well. ‘Murdock’s Gang’, ‘In My Sister’s Shadow’, ‘Fearless Fagan’ and ‘Just This Once’ are some of Leigh’s worst films.
