Ben Kingsley began to act in stage plays during the 1960s and slowly became a well-known stage actor. He soon began to appear in films and television.
Kingsley first earned global recognition for his sterling performance in the 1982 drama, 'Gandhi.' His portrayal of the famous non-violent leader Mohandas K. Gandhi got him huge international fame. His work in Gandhi won him several awards, including an Academy Award for Best Actor. Other notable awards that he received for the film were Golden Globe, BAFTA and London Film Critics' Circle Awards. After featuring in Gandhi, Ben was put into the league of one of the finest British actors.
After his garnering a lot of fame for Gandhi, Ben Kingsley starred in several other known films, which kept his acting career flying high. His great performance in the 1993 drama film 'Schindler's List' earned him a BAFTA nomination for best supporting actor, while the film won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
During the late 1990s, he appeared in many successful movies. He portrayed the character of Sweeney Todd in the 1997 television movie, 'The Tale of Sweeney Todd.' The 2001 television movie, 'Anne Frank,' featured him as Otto Frank, for which he won the Screen Actors' Guild Award.
